Speaking of micromanagement, the AI governors are too stupid to do anything but handle citizen moods. So we have to manage every city, also.
We asked long ago for such things as a GOOD user interface, or "rally points" for units. But we don't even have an easy way to wake all the units on one tile before using the 'J' command which Firaxis eventually got around to giving us after many complaints.
Bombardment is another test of our ability to endure extremes of tedium. This is why many of us never get to Modern War anymore - AND WHY WE NEEDED SCENARIOS SEVEN MONTHS AGO. With scenarios we could get right into a Modern War with manageable number of units.
As for user interface, if you want a real laugh wait until you have a 16 civ game in the Industrial era and you go to the Diplomacy screen and start checking MPP's ROP's, and who is allied to whom. All the crazy useless lines will look like a big bowl of spaghetti thrown against a wall.
Hey Firaxis, are you listening?
Not a chance.
