Hey guys. I've never modded anything in my life, and am skeptical as to wether I can even do this considering that fact.
What I want to do is retro-mod Civ 4 down to, basically, Civ 1. My end result goal would be Civ 1 with Civ 4's graphics.
Some of this I imagine would be pretty easy. But a ton of it obviously wouldn't. I'd have to remove religion entirely. I'd have to find a way to replace civics with government types. I'd have to rework unit strength to have power and defense values, instead of a single figure to represent both. Remove great people. Recreate civil disorder. Remove cultural boundaries. The list, obviously, goes on and on.
Why would I want to do this, you may ask?
Well, while I've loved every Civ to date, Civ 1 remains my favorite. A combination of nastalgia and a prefference to it's simplicity are the primary culprits (Civ 3 and 4 are just too complex for me to relax and enjoy thoroughly unless I'm playing the absurdly easy difficulty levels). I'd also like to get into modding a bit, and this seems like an interesting project.
So I'm asking if this would me much too much of an undertaking for someone with no modding experience (And who doesn't know any program language). Would waiting for the SDK help? Should I not even bother and stick to playing Civ 1?
If so, do any of the more experienced modders like the idea enough to give this project a shot themselves?
