Hello everyone,

With no avail, my entire computer locks up in the initialization phase. When it initializes the propeller stops spinning and I am forced to shut down my computer. The mouse cursor will not work, alt-ctrl delete doesn't function, and I have to manually hold the power button down... This is the initialization after I enter in all the game options (standard map, roman civ, etc. and then the name of the ruler...) Does anybody know a fix to this problem?

I've tried every Catalyst version out there, a few drivers, and all the patches provided by 2kgames. My system is well above specs (well at least to the minimum requirements and mostly above the recommended specs) and I am truly stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is my DXDiag... if you need it...

Also, I have an IBM T41 laptop. Except, I got IBM's full docking station with the X1300, which I don't think is a mobility card. The T41 comes with an inboard Mobility 7500, and I never liked the performance of it so I went with the X1300. I wonder if this is causing compatibility issues.... Just a tip. Oh yeah, and I deactivated the device (7500) in the hardware, but didn't manually delete any drivers for it since I didn't think it'd matter.

Perhaps you can experiment with ini file options. Disable sounds (just in case), disable movies (just in case), try windowed mode instead of full screen. Also experiment with in-game options, try different resolutions/details/...

Instead of creating a new game, try loading an existing one, e.g., the tutorial scenario. Same behavior?

Hi. I just bought Civ. IV and I also have Radeon X1300 for my video card. I am able to load it and play for a small amount of time then my video just craps out on me. I am forced to reboot.

My pc's info is as follows...

MoBo - DFI ATX S939 NForce4
Processor - AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz
HD - Maxtor DiamondMax 250Gig IDE ATA133 7200RPM 16Mb 9Ms
RAM - Corsair Value Select PC3200 1Gig 2x512Mb DDR400
Video Card - Sapphire Radeon X1300 Pro 256Mb 128bit
Sound Card - Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 24-bit (external)
DVD R/RW - Pioneer DVR-110D DVD-RW
OS- Windows XP

Anyone know what is going on with my machine???

Hmmm, I tried the full screen option, no sound, no movies, different resolutions etc. and the same reaction occurs.

HOWEVER, when I tried the tutorial scenario the initilization followed uncorrupted and ALAS... The game crashed within five minutes. I had it so close and saw the wonderful features of the game I could taste it. Any other thoughts? Why would it initialize in the tutorial and not the regular game...?

well, I have been playing now for a bit.... on;y crapped out on me once. I save it just about every turn and for some reason its working ok.

Another tip, when I start playing in tutorial mode it only freezes when I click enter or press the red button to end the turn. It seems like the only time this game will freeze is when the propellor starts spinning...
