Hey guys, I'm kinda new here, though I've been lurking for months. I've been playing C3C for at least three months (had vanilla and PTW before that) and have been enjoying it quite a bit.
Though I have a question. On some of the threads I've been reading, a lot of the screenshots look a lot different that the way a typical game looks for me. I've learned since that the reason for this is because some of ya'll are playing with mods. My question is: Why is that? Do the mods make it better/easier? If so, which mods do what, and which are the most useful. I have just a regular dial up connection at home, but if down loading a mod would benefit my play, then I'd certainly take the time to do it.
I know it's asking a lot, but a small list of mods and their benefits would kick a whole truck load of azz right now....

When I read the thread title I thought you wanted people to rate the moderators!

People use graphics mods simply because they prefer the modded look to the standard look. Check out the Creation & Customisation section and have a look around for anything you might want to change.

Personally the only mod I use is Puppeteer's C3C revision of EvanCiv's citizen icons as it can be confusing to count the number of happy/unhappy citizens in a large city.

Here is a link to the graphics mod forum:

Check out the sticky threads which have lists of various mods.

Here is a list of the graphics mods I use, for ease and quickness.

CornMaster's Borders
I just added these to look a little nicer, and stand out a bit more than the regular ones.

Pupeteer's Popheads (The one Zakharov talked about)
This makes using the F1 screen looking for rioting cities very easy.

[No link sorry. I can email them to you or upload them if you want them.]Custom Irrigation Graphics
This mod makes irrigation look a little more like real life irrigation.

Sn00py's Terrain
The most visually pleasing and more realistic terarin in my opinion.

Hope some of these links helped... :)

I use Cornmaster's Borders and sn00py's Terrain as well, but I've used a LOT of Pounder's variations for sn00py's terrain. Look around in the Graphics section of the Creation and Custimization forum, and find one of Pounder's posts, then look through his sig - he has all the links to his mods there. :)

I use Warpstorm's Terrain as it is by far the best and most pleasing to the eye. :P

So it's just a 'whatever suits you best' thing. There's no real benefits besides making it more aesthetically pleasing? Or maybe being able to see your citizens' moods easier.

I usually use Rhye's terrain for my normal games, since I think it looks so much better than the normal ones.

I've been allmost exclusively playing mods heavily changing the game like the warhammer mod or rhye's of civilization lately. They add tons of variety, and especially the WH mod is a whole new game in most parts.
Both can be found in the completed modpacks forum, but being on dialup, you should think twice before downloading them, because they are some massive downloads...

Well, as someone who is not warpstorm, I will also endorse his terrain ;). It's all I use...

there are also mods that change game rules and unit values, as well as add new units and civilizations
