hi fans,

I am kind of bore of playing as lincoln for nearly two whoopin months. I feel that it is seriously the time for me to change to something else.

Is there any difference on the advantages for choosing a different civ to play as? Please share your experience on who you are playing as so that I can have higher scores.

I am no expert in this game, I am only starting to win games constantly on Monarch level. But I find that if I use the same civ more than once in a row, I get bored with the game. The setup of the world gives different advantages to different civs. If the world is comprised of small islands with deserts, the Dutch (seafaring, agricultural) have a big advantage. The vikings are a good choice whenever the world is seperated into islands. On the other hand if the world is one huge pangea then both these civs are at a disadvantage. In most cases (on pangea) a civ doesn't need to do much of any expanding overseas, so any civ that is seafaring on a pangea basically has only 1 helpful trait.

You played America for two month? Wow, you really need to change. If you are playing Conquests try new traits, like agricultural and seafaring. If it is PtW/Vanilla just try something new: Persia, Babylon, Rome, Grece are all nice. Remember:there is no best civ!

Iroquois is generally regarded as the best civ on most maps, but on archipelago maps, you need a seafaring civ...

Depends on a lot of factors here are some of them:
- Desired VC
- Map type
- Map size
- Player's style
- Defficulty level
- Importance of leader's looks :)

ABout 2/3 of the civs have reviews done of them in the War Academy. Spend an afternoon reading through them. They are well written, and have tons of info on what the strengths and weaknesses are depending on the factors mentioned by others.

I experiment with different civs but I always go back to the Greeks. Their traits match my style of play. I aim for short but decisive wars in between long periods of building and researching and I find them good for that. I also love the Hoplite, I think he's one of the best UUs in the game.

I avoid the Scientific trait on Diety and Sid levels where I like to have Militaristic as one of my traits. I usually choose the Chinese or the Romans when I play those levels.

Determine what style of player you are. What gives you the biggest thrills: warmongering, building, having a large empire, cities with large populations, exploring, being filthy rich, being popular. Then set the parameters to match your preferred strategy.
For instance, if you're a warmonger who doesn't want a long game, play the Aztecs on a tiny Pangea map, at a level you're comfortable with.
If you like exploring and want an island empire, Seafaring's extra movement point will get you to new continents and their luxury resources fast.
I'd definitely give the Byzantines a shot. The virtually invincible (until late Ind. Age) Dromon is a real joy to command and a considerably large fleet can decide wars for you. If you can get The Great Lighthouse as well, you'll be unstoppable with the extra movement point.

I've been playing on Regent level and I like the Chinese on small continents and the Ottomans on standard continents. I usually go for space ship victory, and their horse-UUs are great for keeping the bad guys out of my way or for acquiring missing resources. Both of them also have the industrious trait, and I'm too impatient to wait for the mining and road-building times for non-industrious civs.

industrious, agricultural, scientific, religious are good traits.civs with these traits are awesome to play with.i have to play civ who has two of these traits.

Best civ?

Introducing the agricultural trait gave me new favourites. Most of the agri civs are generally regarded as the best.

The only problem with the Agri civs is that their UU's tend to suck.

America's fun when I want to be able to pronounce all of the city names.

But the truth is that it really depends on what kind of map you are gonna run with.

I disagree. The Iroquois and Celtic UU for example. Suck, they most certainly do not.

The others sort of do. But they have their moments.

EDIT: Sorry I misread you, didn't see you said "tend" already

One easier levels, I find argicultural and religion civ is easy to play since both traits help you with the empire expansion, and only Celts have these traits.

I think he meant Enkidu Warrior, Chasqui Scout, Jaguar Warrior and possibly Javelin Thrower. Agreed on these, but Mounted Warrior and Swiss Mercenary are very good indeed.

I like Babylon cause I can pop temples and libraries easily early in the game. I try to avoid using the bowman in wars though, which is pain, because I want my GA in the Middle Ages.

Being a warmonger I like the Chinese. On anything but archipelago they prevail. A sentimental favourite from Civ 1 and 2 is the Germans. Their Panzers are fun but normally I have the game all but wrapped up by then. As a result I tend to play scenarios these days with modern themes.
