RB20 - Miller Time

U could give Alex a chance canceling open borders with Mali (how many troops did Mali send already -- if he razed 4 cities already it maybe enough, though...)

Why would we care about giving Alex a chance?

You do realize, I hope, that if we closed the border, Mali would have only one possible target left: us!

That was not the game plan. :p

- Sirian

After cancelling open borders Mansa will still fight Axel. I don't suppose he will turn away from his victim, but without fresh troopers from the motherland his attack will slow down and it can actually tak LONGER to Mansa to finish Alex off - maybe the whole 50 turn?

If Mansa attacked this would enable chosen uwisely rule :groucho:

Yeah, but it would harsh Mike's mellow. Like, party pooper, dude. Major bummer to be moving sixty or eighty units per turn to no particular end, watching Mansa eradicating some of our Roach Poach because we can't possibly defend every site.

Besides, it's not Choosing Unwisely when you are manipulating the puppet strings. Choosing Unwisely is THEIR choice, not ours. And may whatever deities they worship have mercy on their souls if they actually go there. :smoke:

- Sirian

I think it is fantastic if he is razing cities, that means he is clearing the land for our settlers!

I guess I did not build enough!

The intent of putting them into Germany was so they were on hand to capture space that Germany took from Russia or Japan, I did not think Alex would become the next target.

We can build settlers in 1-2 turns in most cities, so build some more. In some cases, it will be faster to build new ones, rather than send ones all the way deep in Germany back to Greece.

If we are lucky we can add all of the former Grecian lands to our territories.

What's the domination limit on the map? You might have to be careful to not go over it, since it looks like you're taking a lot of land.

Domination is disabled. The only enabled victory condition is Time.

I see the save, and will play early tomorrow, which will be in about 12 hours.

Bah!

Taking all the Axel land is fine
...but taking all Axel AND Mansa land would have been

/Just provoking U. I already said the game was won ca 100 turns ago ;) /

Miller time!

Here is my last report for this SG. Unfortunately not many spectacular things happened, so this report won't be very exciting either, but nevertheless I had a lot of fun with this SG. Huge maps certainly are fun, and it's too bad most peoples' machines aren't able to handle them. Mine is barely able to run it after 1800, though that may be due to a lack of RAM. A shame, since I like how a World War has erupted in this game. However, I do think that the standard amount of civs (11) on a Huge map is too small, it took until 1000 AD before most civs touched borders, and the world was not even fully occupied in 1800 AD.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Turn 1 (2001): Found Macchu Picchu and Mecca.

rb20mecca2001.jpg

IBT 2: Mali and Germany continue carving up Greece.

Turn 3 (2003):
Found Offenbeek. I decided to name the cities I will be founding this turnset after my home town and the city to which I go to school:mischief:. At least it's no Straussburg!

rb20offenbeek2003.jpg

IBT 7: Cyrus asks us to cancel deals with Tokugawa. I agree.

Turn 7 (2007): Found Reuver.

rb20reuver2007.jpg

IBT 8:
I refuse to cancel deals with Frederick for Peter.

Turn 8 (2008): Found Roermond. Can any non-Dutchmen pronounce these words?;)

rb20roermond2008.jpg

Turn 9 (2009):
Orenburg (Russia) revolts, but does not yet flip. It might be possible to do this before the game ends.

I had great fun with this SG. The variant made things very interesting, though in retrospect it wasn't as hard as everyone anticipated beforehand, though Feudalism costing us 50 turns made me a bit nervous as well:lol:.
I liked playing in an RB-SG, especially one hosted by Sirian. I can't remember how much fun I had reading your Civ 3 Epic reports. You extended the time I played Civ3 by many months. Why it still took me nearly 4 years to find Realms Beyond, I don't know either:rolleyes:. Also, I don't know how I would've managed without all of your dotmaps. We probably wouldn't have been in this comfortable position;). I hope you'll come back on your decision to quit SG's! I also enjoyed reading the rest of the team's reports, and I hope we'll meet again in another SG!

To close off, a nice little fact about beer: In the US, you need to be 21 to drink. In the Netherlands, you only need to be 16.

What time is it?

When SG players have nearly used up all their space, they can contact me and I will consider adding them to the easy upload's exclusion list, which doesn't have space limit. Same thing applies for modders. Just make sure you show some effort to to delete obsolete files (ex. mainly old saved games) you don't need.
I'm sure if you email Thunderfall, he will accommodate you Sirian. Hope you stick around and play more SGs.

Highlands and Terra maps are larger than other map scripts. Try Huge with 11 on Fractal or Pangaea or Lakes, and you will see a different story.

At least it's no Straussburg!

I can! That one is pronounced "R City". ;)

The secret is giving stuff nicknames. (You all remember M City from RB1, right? )

We never got attacked. That made a big difference.

Anyway, as Speaker points out, CFC is making accomodations for SG players, which is where I always expected things to go (they have been extraordinary hosts for half a decade now) although not something to be taken for granted. I don't have another SG planned for right away, but if the space crunch is off, then it's only a matter of time until the next one.

Looks like Mansa really is going to raze all of Greece. Fascinating. :D

I'm amazed at how bloodthirsty he gets when starts running out of things to research... Greece will be the third civilization to fall by his hands?

HC has some C City no one can pronounce correctly.

Huge maps really are the hard kind of games :)

Indeed. I guess this is also a consequence of the fact that we only touched borders very late in the game, by which time our neighbours were either our friends or too weak to attack us.

yes a very wise (arse) man once said, make friends with mali :D

What a toal monster mansa turned out of be. Always fun to see alex get his head handed to him though.

As for cfc making accomidations for sg's, where exactly is this info and if so might want to have tf post it as a stickie to this subforum.

I so dearly love this site and it's message boards though, It clearly has raised my expectations from other forums. Hope cfc does something for the more cantankerous of hte sg'ers out there =)

As for me, all my images have come from photobucket and well one of my first post images is safe and sound to this day....

I took screenshots of all the cities I founded this round, but as we are on the mop up stage, I will not bore you with the details (unless someone wants to see them, then I will edit this post and add them).

2020 (0)

We have 1 engineer, 3 merchants, 2 artists now. That is enough for one golden age, which we should probably use up. I will wait and let mike do it at the start of his turn, but he should not wait any longer. San Francisco will spawn a great person in just over 20 turns, but even if it is a scientist (55%), that will not give us enough for a second golden age. I think the jump will be too much for the next city (it is close), to spawn another great person. Either way, I strongly think mike should start a golden age at the start of his turn.

Someone put most of our workers to sleep, I wake them up, there are still things to do.

I found a well to build a fort over. And a town to farm over.

Medina founded at a choice location in former Greece. Most of our settlers are asleep :(

Xian founded. I found a bunch more settlers asleep :/

2021 (1)

Berwick founded in former Greece.

2022 (2)

Founded city?

2023 (3)

Our new cities need a lot of worker attention, please do not put any to sleep.

Har-Ayrag founded.

Suo founded.

Teoihuacan founded.

Trade mission for 4350 gold.

Chengdu founded.

2024 (4)

Chehalis founded.

Damascus founded on a REALLY marginal spot, but it filled a hole!

Hangzhou founded.

I go ahead and do another trade mission, this should let us deficit spend to the end.

Nalayh founded.

Ollantaytambo founded.

2025 (5)

Madras founded.

2026 (6)

Bath founded

Bangalore founded.

I left a few settlers sleeping in airport towns, so if anyone needs a settler fast, look for those.

Tes founded.

2027 (7)

Pi-Ramesses founded.

Mytilene founded.

I put quite a few cities building wealth, to stop the complete hemeraging. I think I will trigger a golden age next turn, I think I have founded all the cities I can found until more cities are razed.

2028 (8)

Kandahar founded.

I go ahead and trigger a golden age, the sooner to build the first buildings in all these new cities. Our gold goes from -294/turn to +227/turn

2029 (9)

Just some worker actions

2030 (10)

The people of Samarquand revolt and want to join us!

Altin Tepe founded.

I go ahead and queue up a lot of worker actions, since it seems some people do not like doing this.

Of the 146 settlers we have built, we have 18 left! I built some more to replace the ones I used this round :)
rb20-iustus-124.jpg

The most important ones are circled in red, when that japanese city falls, you should have plenty to move in and take some territory. THe interior settlers are all at airports, to airlift if you need one somewhere unexpected quickly.

I built many workers this round, I was airlifting them into the new cities.

I was building buddist missionaries as fast as I could in 3 cities, airlifting them. I built some taoist missionaries when I could not build buddist, even though we do not have a taoist shrine.

As you can see from this shot, we have claimed just about all of Alex's former territories, and also have some footholds into the former Japanese lands that Cyrus is conquering. Our infestation of the former Mongol lands was very successful as well.

That screenshot reminds me of sim city with only the high tech city resident blocks filling the majority of the screen for max population.

That and well cancer lol.

Can honestly say I've never encountered a game where one air lifts settlers enmass to found new towns. Think of all the free flowing beer!

Cheers!

I got the save and will play tomorrow night. Good move starting the Golden Age during your turnset because if we do pop the right combo for another one then we'll be able to benefit from most of the second one too before Sirian's turns end.

That's a pretty impressive screen shot. I especially like how Greco-America is a sea of blue.
