Rebuilding Civilization (post-apoc mod idea)

I was playing Civ 6 the other night and I had a thought that the format of Civ would lend itself really well to a post-apocalyptic game; specifically the zombie apocalypse (we all know it's coming). I'm thinking a game where raging Zombies are everywhere all the time, technologies have to be re-learnt and government models rebuilt. Settlements attract other survivors to work the land, and have to generate enough food to feed their camp.

I've put quite a bit of thought since then into how I'd want it to look, and how the mechanics could work and I've got something in my head that'd be great fun to play, that I'll try to get written down. My problems from here are that I aren't really a coder (I did some at Uni, but that was 10 years ago) so until the Modding tools are released and I know what we've got to work with there's not a lot I can do.

I know a really good CG artist who I'd love to get involved, but I guess I'm just asking if this is something people would be interested in playing and/or contributing to? I know I'm unlikely to have the ability to pull something like this off my myself, and though I know a few people I could ask for help I think it's better to open it up to willing volunteers first and foremost.

If there's any interest then I'll work on posting up an initial design and scope for the project.

The zombie apocalypse craze needs to die a fiery death. It's the dumbest premise for a world setting ever.
 
When I worked as sleep away camp counselor, we added resources and barbarians to risk. Which was blast by the way. Then one day we decided to replace the barbarians with "zombies". Though I'd also keep ravaging barbarians (use ranger unit).

Basically, I would make it so that you start with one city and an infantry unit. I'd mod the units to do range damage and split up their damage. They can move or attack 3 times per turn. Reset all tech to be back in the medieval era, with very high tech costs, and I'd cover the map with lots of villages and city ruins. City ruins have very high defense and spawn waves of zombies. Villages on the other hand allow you supply your cities with food, production, gold and science. Every-time you find a new village you are gifted with all of the above and a trader. You can use the trader to set up a route between your city and the villages, which will bring in a constant supply. You can use a builder to build a wall around your borders, but if 3 zombies are ever adjacent to the wall for 2 turns the wall will fall and the zombies will flood in.

Why not just go full on TWD or add different civs from famous zombie films. Leaders include Rick, the Governor, Negan from TWD. Ben, Captain Rhodes, Peter, and Kaufman from NoTLD series, and Gery Lane from WWZ.
 
You may or may not like the zombie genre, that's fine. I initially thought of a more fallout-like world with barbs being fluffed as raiders etc. but I weren't sure it matched the zombie premise for the sheer unrelenting press of inevitable destruction. They way I'm thinking of things though it could easily be flavoured to other post-apocalyptic settings once the building blocks are in place.

The idea will be that survival is the goal of the game first and foremost, so there could be a victory condition for surviving to x turn, or achieving x population. The science victory of discovering the cure/solving the global issues that caused the apocalypse. These would be goals a player could aim for even if they were the only civilization on the map.

Techs would have to be rediscovered, but the basics would already be known. Societies would have to be rebuilt and re-established (utilizing the Tech and Civics trees). It's just an idea at the moment. I'm going to look later at how feasible it is as an idea.
 
I used to be a big fan of the zombie movie genre. In fact once upon a time it gave me quite the chubby, let me tell you. But have you ever spent more than thirty seconds with a group of crackheads before? Kinda makes it hard to watch The Walking Dead when your mates keep popping up with new crack scabs.
 
Shame this didn't progress..

All those apocalyptic graphics in Civ6 Red Death mode could save a chunk of time off making a post apocalyptic Fallout like wasteland mod for Civ6. I noticed DirtyCarie started working on a Civ6 Fallout mod and Oyster Knight Eternal started working on a similar Apocalyptic mod idea too but they didn't get far either sadly.
