Does anyone have a set of preferences that reduces the AI time between games, or are there any other methods to achieve this

Despite switching off some of the animation preferences I still having to wait a long time between turns. I do know that it could have something to do with playing on huge map with 16 civs!

AFAIK the most efficient way to increase speed is adding more ram. But still it will take time between turns if you are playing on a huge map with lot of civs.

Turning off sound will also help a bit but can cause occasional crash error because of some bugs there.

You can turn off "show enemy" and "show allied" moves. Make sure you turn these back on when tensions rise though.

The only advice anyone can give you is don't play huge maps.

Even after turning off everything to reduce time, it still takes forever (at least psychologically it feels that way).

Personally, I play even bigger than the standard huge map. I actually go 16 civs on a 256 x 256 map. But you NEED to have lots of other stuff to do between turns. I have a 2nd computer that I surf the net on.

Another interesting experiment would be to increase maintenance on workers to 2 and take away free maintenance. If you reduce the number of units, that should speed up the game. Don't know what that would do to the game play though.

Another experiment might be to increase min tech time to 12. That should reduce the number of AI trades and might increase game speed.

A third experiment would be to increase the maintenance on all units and improvements by 1.
More maintenance, less gold, fewer improvements and workers should translate into faster game play.

If you try any of these, let us know what happens to game play. Many of us don't want to buy new computer hardware but would like to see the game run faster.

If all else fails, play with only 3-4 civs instead of 16. In the end it will probably come down to choosing between fewer civs or smaller maps.

Let us know what you discover. thanks.

i hear you, lblack. i'm a late night player and an expansionist by nature. i only play huge map but stick to 8 nations. sometimes the game is so damned boring i nod off. but normally when i wake up, it's my turn. normally...
