Hey, can any of you guys analyse this Regent difficulty save for me. I'm playing as the Ottomans on a standard map with no barbarians. There are 8 players on this map altogether. I have included 2 saves, one at the first age, and the second at the beginning of the second age. Thanks.

Here they are:

What version of Civ are these saves for? I downloaded it and it didn't work on Conquests 1.22.

I´m no expert but i had a look at your save games. Generally you have a good play but i would have done some things diffrenly. First i think you´re going after the wrong wonders , wonders like pyramids and temple of artmis gives a lot more for your mony than Great libary. City improvments also shouldn´t be built in all cities but barracks in citys biuldning defeners attackers libries in good scienes citys. Alot of your libarys barly gives one extra scienes and are not worth the upkeep. Wars is a good way to get cities in both your save games the portuges seems weak. In the Bad one they have built The pyramids to which make the a even better target.

A lot of this advice and a lot more can be found at the war academy hope you had some use of my advice and happy gaming.

The Great Library is an extremely useful wonder for keeping up in the tech race! Now, if your ahead in techs, it's only slightly useful (denieing the enemy it), but if your behind or equal, it can be very helpful!

The Great Libary is ok, but in regent and below I find the AI researches way too slow to give it a real use :(
With decent economical management you shouldn't have trouble researching techs faster than the AI. I'm currently the tech leader in my first regent & OCC game from self research (mainly) and trades (where needed).

Great, I'll keep that in mind, but i don't understand what you said about pyramids and temple of artemis being worth more than the great library. I used the great library to gain over 5 free techs and that gave me a tech lead into the middle ages.

thanks

In regent you useally have no problem getting the tech lead. Pyramids and temple of artemis gives you upkeep free improvements to use for money, scienes. Granries meens bigger cities more scienes. Temple of artimies help keep thoose people happy. Pyramids also never goes out of date which is a problem with Temple of artimies.

The Temple of Artemis, at any difficulty, is a royal waste of shields. It's the most expensive Wonder in the Ancient Age... for what? Temples that last maybe 50 turns if you research slowly. The Pyramids is the best AA Wonder on Regent, followed by the Statue of Zeus (if you have Ivory) or the Hanging Gardens (if you don't).

well, i played this game after reading Ision's strategy article about the waste of time, effort and shields, so that's why you don't see me building all the wonders and i have to admit that it's still quite hard trying to keep up with all the wonders as there are so many other things to do.

any tips on what city improvements are useful to build? and which ones are a waste of shields? (in general)

You evantually want to build all the improvments in all your city. You have to choose which are worth it. I try to build happyness improvment first temples etc. Granarys are good to bulid in citys you build a lot of settlers in. Genarly i think that the bigger pop. a city have you can waste some time buildning improvments. Wonders steal some time at higher levels when you have no shot at them but in this game you should probably have gotten aleast pyramids ages ahead of your competours. My useuall buildorder in a new city is defender, worker, defender, settler then i adjust to the map alot of nabours more defenders attackers no nabours more settlers improvments wonders.

False. This is a very common mistake, but those improvements cost money and don't always pay back. If your science rate is 0 or 10% essentially always, libraries and universities are worthless. A city with one coast and one sea CAN build a harbor, but it's very rarely worth it. Barracks in every city is a waste. Specialize your cities.

Corruption is the biggest reason to specialize. Building improvements in tragically corrupt cities is a sure way to commit economic suicide.

It's really hard to decode the rest of pelle6's post, but I would recommend people not try. The advice appears to be two defenders/city, with no barracks and no consideration for what the rest of the empire can provide. That's a dramatically sub-optimal way to build a nation.
