I don't know anything about programing languages and am not sure whether this can be implemented as a mod -- but just wanted to know whether you guys think this is an interesting idea.

DISCLAIMER - I DON'T INTEND TO OFFEND ANYONE. IF YOU FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT RELIGION, PLEASE STOP READING.

Well, simply put, a "Rapture" will be a new victory condition.

This is how I think it would work.

1. First of all, you need to found a religion (or capture a holy city). This religion doesn't have to be your state religion.

2. Then, you need to meet certain conditions to be able to build a unique religious wonder. For example, the conditions you need to satisfy are:

(a) certain % of followers in world population: this would be measured by the following formula -- the sum of (the population # of that city divided by the total # of religion present in the city) per each city. Or maybe some other formula that makes sense. :)

(b) certain # of "cathedrals" built in your civ: this should increase with the increase in map size. For standard game, maybe 5 cathedrals?

(c) if these are too easy, we can add more conditions -- for example, you need to consume certain # of great prophets to finish the wonder.

3. Then, you need to build the unique religious wonder. We can creatively think about what this wonder will be. I would think it wouldn't be a building - rather a project of some sort. For example, how about "Scientific Proof of Rebirth" for buddhism or "DNA Cloning from the Shroud" for christianity? :mischief:

4. After you successfully build this wonder, there is a chance that your religion will be "the True Religion". I imagine this would work by adding very small amount of probability per every turn. Maybe 0.1-0.5% per turn? Note that there could be multiple civs trying to get this victory, but there can be only ONE true religion. Whichever religion that wins the lottery first is the True Religion.

5. If your religion is chosen as a True Religion, then a Messiah will be born in one of your cities that has the True Religion. The Messiah will be an invisible unit (like a spy). A "Rapture" will occur if you bring the Messiah to the holy city and keep him/her there for certain number of turns. Creating the name of the Messiah can be fun too -- how about "81st Dalai Lama" for buddhism, "King of Israel" for judaism? :king:

6. One of other religions will be given an Anti-Messiah. The Anti-Messiah is also an invisible unit. The Messiah and the Anti-Messiah can see each other, and other units can kill the Messiah or the Anti-Messiah if they can be seen by the presence of the opponent. If other civ succeeds in killing the Messiah, the path to religious victory is permanently over. For that game, there is no religious victory for anyone. But if the Anti-Messiah is killed, there will be another one born after a few turns.

7. If you keep your Messiah in the holy city for sufficient time, a Rapture will occur: the heaven will crack open or the bodhisatvas descend or krishna returns, etc. You win the game!

:) What do you think?

thats an interesting idea

Its a neat idea for a scenario. Though leaving things up to random chance seems like a bad way of ending a regular game.

I think a good religious victory for regular games would work with that inquisitor unit that can stamp out religion. If you can wipe out all the other religions in the world and spread your religion to every city in the world, and if you hold the holy city, then you win.
