Research slowed down? Why?

Hi,
I don't understand a special thing in civ2. If I research something (quite in the beginning of the game) and it would take let's say 5 rounds, why suddenly after finding techs in huts this research time gets bigger? Is there a good reason for this?

And if yes, how can I return to a resonable time again (perhaps by sending caravans into other cities, buying the library, ...?)

Hope somebody can help me with that.

Every time you discover a new tech (no matter how you discover it), the cost for the next tech rises a certain degree (I don't know the exact formula). Therefore if you get a tech from a hut the tech you're currently researching gets more expensive.

The "research rate" of X number of turns is based on the research produced by your cities. If you want to decrease that, increase your Science % to the max for your government, add research improvements (Library, University, ResearchLab) and Wonders (Copernicus and Newtons), build a Super Science City, and increase the number of trade arrows your cities are working. A different way to get more beakers into your research queue is delivering caravans and freights. For each gold bonus payment you get an equal number of beakers (up to the limit of the current required amount, with extras lost till a tech is discovered). Note that caravan/freight delivery can also create a trade route in your city, which adds extra trade arrows to city research as well.
