No. Once you select an advance and start research, you are committed. The only way to "switch" is to obtain the advance from another source, i.e., trade for it from an AI civ, or get it from a hut. Althrough that is not really switching, its starting on a new advance, but you do get to keep the beakers you have accumulated on the first advance.
