Right of Passage / MPP's

If you would have fought purely defensively and not have invaded Egypt, the MPPs wouldnt have been activated. They activate as soon as you try to pillage improvements, or attack in your enemies territory. If someone attacks you and you fight a purely defensive war, you'll never have to fight their MPP allies.

when you say a defensive war, does that mean I just have to shove all my units into the under-fire cities and sit and take what they dish out? or can I attack their units in my teritory? as long as I leave their cities alone?? cause although I am starting to mass produce infantry and with the aid of railroads get them into the fold the same turn I get them, I've still got quite a large amount of Cavalry poised to push through?

By defensive war he means that you cannot attack or pillage the AI territory. So as long as you only attack units in your territory you should be fine.

no pillage???? damn I would have sent an explorer into their territory to get rid of their rubber if I was allowed to. now I'm gonna get attacked by infantry as well

Stay just defensive until MMP works the way you want. Then invade enemy's territory & attack, pillage, capture...

you're all lucky I never get attacked i always have to attack.

what difficulty do you play on? in the higher levels the AI dosen't even think twice about kicking lumps out you. For example in the game I'm playing at the moment ( the one with the Egyptians ) the Mongolians attacked me for no reason pretty early on.

just a follow up. finally made peace after about 10 turns of fighting. I know its dishonest to load up a mission when loosing but I wanted to try the idea of static defence. It worked. I got loads of Elite Cavalry (STILL no GL) and I finally made peace without drawing in any other Civ. now, there is just the question of taking on the Spanish..........

I hate when that hapens, all get angry and declare war to you, at same time...

I just negociate ROP with weaker civs and barely never do MPP because it often causes problems.

What I usually do is to get money with others war. Last time, English + Celts were against French. But France, although very large, didn't have iron or horses. So, every time they get back on war, I renew the deal with French, asking more money for iron and horses... Sometimes I can get money negotiating ROP with a civ so as they can attack their enemy.

In the case where a civ declares war on you, buy the top two scoring civs to beat the snot out of them or buy an mpp. Sometimes you can get a cheap alliance if another civ attacks you. You can also reload the game and get an mpp before the fighting starts....
