Rites of Oghma and Ancient Forests

My elf civ covers 20% of the world. I completed the Rites of Oghma (new raw mana nodes). None appeared inside my borders. I tought: OK that sucks, I think I'll quickload (saved the turn before). Again no nodes. Couple more times, no nodes. 20+ more times, no nodes. Everyone else got 2-4 nodes inside their borders but me.

Either the ritual is rigged only to happen outside your own cultural borders (whats the point?!) or since all my land was covered with forests/ancient forests, I didnt get any. I don't recall ever seeing a mana node on a forest tile so I suspect that's the problem. Seems kinda unfair for the elf civs. In any case I would like to get some info about how it works.

Mana nodes can never be on a forested tile, that's correct. As far as I know, they can only spawn on non-forested tiles that are not adjacent to a river (not sure about that last bit, didn't pay too much attention to it).

i had the exact same issue as Mazatl (vehmes new lizzies) most of my entire empire was jungle and i got NO new mana nodes, not even on non forested plains (and i had a lot of plains, playing creation map)
