RoM 2.91 not in German?

Hello there,

I recently downloaded RoM because I love the Civ-Mega-Pack :crazyeye:

Unfortunately, it seems not to be available in German. I can switch the language in the main menu, but when creating a game, many civilization names, especially of the added ones, will not be displayed. When the game starts then, it's in English again. If I then go to language settings, nothing else but English can be selected.

I tried reinstalling but it wouldn't help. Do have any recommendations to me?

Cheers,
Piru

Edit: One more thing, I just saw 2.92 is out, so I'll try that.

Is the mega civ pack compatible to 2.92?

I think the German translation came later than RoM 2.92 and since it is not being actively supported the translations have not been added.

I did a translation for 2.91 and as as far as I know it was included (and also 2.92). I think the problem is the Megapack - I never did that (and do not plan to).

Can you give me a hint on how to translate it then? I'd love to do it, however, I cannot seem to find the files...?

I do not have the MegaPack, so I am not sure. Best is to search for XML files that do contain the word "text" in the name, e.g. "RoM_GameText_Objects.xml". To do translations I advice to use Notepad++.

I did but I havent found the names of the civilization. Would you do me the favor and check it? I'd of course post my translations, so many German players might take an advantage. :)

I could check it but I 1st have to download the Mega Pack. Unfortunately I can´t find a version for ROM 2.92 (or 2.91). Could that be the real reason for your language problem? If you can show me where to download the Mega Civ Pack for RoM 2.9x, then I will check...

It's true, it's not officially available, I just tried. But the issues are exactly the same ones I had with the previous version (2.81?)

I'd greatly appreciate it, if you could help me. MAybe you can pm me? thank you so much!

OK, I downloaded Megapack 1.7 for RoM 2.80 (I think there is also a Patch for 2.81 but nothing newer). When you go into Assets\Modules you can find the folders "Custom Civilizations" and "Custom Leaderheads". Both do contain a lot of subfolders and each subfolder contains an *.xml file that does contain "text", e.g. "Aborigines_CIV4GameText.xml". In the sub-subfolders there are even more relevant files like "Boraring_CIV4GameText.xml". If you use Notepad++ for editing these files you have to translate the text that is written between <german> and </german>.

Ok, I understand.

But when I look at those xml files, there's always something written already between <German> and </German>, even if it's only in English in fact. I wonder, why ingame it will not let me choose any other language than English. I don't need to start translating unless I find out what causes German not to be choosable. Otherwise I spend weeks in translating but German is still not electible...

Can you help me with that?

I am not a modder except having done some translations on Civ 4 mods, so unfortunately I do not really know, what´s going wrong here.

I could make a guess though: There might be an error in the XML somewhere in the foreign languages tags. Maybe one of the tags in the non-english languages is completely missing or there is an error in the syntax. There might be developper tools to find that quickly, the other option probably is to check every single text file. Maybe an experienced modder knows better than me...
