Have you ever played a Bioware RPG? Baldurs Gate II, KotOR, Jade Empires, or Neverwinter Nights? These games all featured a level of NPC interaction that allowed romance dialogue to occur if you where particularly nice to given NPC.

Now maybe I am just being silly (or am I?:hmm: ) but is it possible to mod Civilization so that the attitude bar might slide that little bit further upwards? A few additional diplomacy lines of sweet nothings perhaps? I would trade "Democracy" for "Sexual Favors" with Isabella any given day.

uh, this is somewhat like the Hot coffee idea and I just read a thread at another site on how because of that 1 mod all modding of games should be illegal and that game developers should not allow modding at all.
I am all for the creative mind and enjoy the end product of most modders. However, lets not give the close-minded segment of the world any further ammo in their fight to make everyone the same basic religion/race/goverment/whatever they are ok? Those who think that, rather than just not let their child play the game, they should ban everyone from playing it are out there and have a big voice in the politics of the USA, and other places.

Be good if the romance could lead to a royal marrige and the merging of two kingdoms like in them olden days

Hot coffee?

I strongly disagree with that. So you want to bow to the censors ? What you should do instead is enter the political fight. Gamers have this weird idea that if they could just be let to themselves, everything is going to be allright, but it's not. When one side of the opposition is voiceless, it is really easy for the other side, the Hillarys and Co, to rule the court and do pretty much whatever they want.
So while I agree with you that there is a problem, I believe the correct way to fight it is by gaining more political clout. Imagine if all GTA:San Andreas players in the US had just taken the pain to write a letter to their congressmen stating that putting a mature label on San Andreas because of a mod was stupid, and that they better oppose the measure or else they would loose some vote... What do yo think would have happened ? (hint : look at the sales figures of GTA in the US)
Unfortunately, as long as the gamers, most of whom are now grown-up with electoral powers, prefer to remain silent, they will deserve all the worst ideas coming from people who have no clue but great opportunistic feelings.

PS : I reall am not mad at you, elderotter ;) please don't take this personnaly, it's just that I got so furious after the GTA thing that this is now a sensible subject :)

EDIT : to make a long answer short, we should lobby so that mods are recognized as not supported by the game developpers and fall under the First Amendment.

no problem and I see your point, just figured most gamers are so tied into modding or playing that political agitation would be too time consuming for them.

Yes but we all know that the sex scenes in those games were cuts to a black screen and did absolutely nothing but please the immagination. Not only that but it cost you gold -- a lot of it in Planescape...

It just wasn't worth it.

[joke]However, I wouldn't mind adding in some new in-game movies![/joke]

On a slightly more serious note, it might be interesting if you could trade marraiges(princesses or something like that) for political alliances like was often done in ancient and medieval times. Such arrangements had more than a passing influence on the political nature of those times.

Maybe there will be a hidden "Hot Coffee" section :mischief:

roflmao.. too funny

Here I got all excited. I thought you guys were going to talk about Romance of the Three Kingdoms. A mod featuring two dozen Chinese warlords vying for power would be absolutely kickass.

Anyway, the controversy over Hot Coffee wasn't that it was a mod, it was that the content was in GTA's code already, but hidden.

Mods are considered the intellectual property of their creators, not the creators of the game they're developed for. So if you made some insane Civ4 sex mod (although, in the name of good taste, I hope you don't :) ) it wouldn't give any legal clout to the opponents of the game industry.
