Rome Total War

True but castle sieges would be nearly impossible if there was a large garrison inside.

@KittenofChaos-You know you can turn on victory by glorious achivements in MTW, instead of trying to conquer everywhere. It will offer you more realistic goals and stuff.

Of course.

But the AI isn't very good at that!

In the latest game with Golden Achievements I'm beating the A.I without mercy. I really do find the only challenge is rebels and the vast amount of effort playing all the battles takes especially when accursed Germans re-appear. GRRR!!!

Does everybody here know it's not out until April? That's 7 months away. Let's not get too excited.

I just read that yesterday in a magazine, which is very strange considering it is ready to be played for a TV program yet isn't going to be ready for people to buy for another 7 months...

Well they've obviously got the battle engine working but they may still have loads of work to do on the campaign map side. 7 months does seem rather excessive though.

What is this programme?

It does seem strange.

I checked the date on Amazon by the way.

Its on BBC 2 and there is a little bit of information on the previous page that Greeny posted. Other than that we will just have to wait for the 4th of september when the program starts.

Here's a description from next week's Radio Times:

(it's on ay 8.00 pm 4th Sept. BBC2)

Time Commanders
New Series
Can the victories of history's greatest generals be re-created by contestants eager to demonstate thier own military guile? Tonight's team find themsleves in 218 BC, where they take control of Hannibal's Carthaginian army and attempt to defend Trebia in northern Italy from the Romans. Having formulated a stratagy, the team send their troops into battle, co-ordinating their moves via computers and witnessing the sound and fury of combat through the hi-tech studio set-up. Hosted by Eddie Marr.

I think the most interesting bit, is that based on the battle involved there should be war elephants! :goodjob:

Sounds great!

:goodjob:

My new moan:

If they can play the battle mode then we should at least be able to play a demo of the game!

Is there a 100% chance of a demo? Because I read somewhere that they aren't sure if one will be released or not. Anyway I'm not having high expectations because I don't think it will work on my PC, but if a demo comes out, it will be on my computer the first day.

Thye probably still have to make loads of units. They have previews of the units on the site, and so far they look good. I hope they don't include Gladiators as units to have in your armies, because they weren't actually in the armies, they fought in the collosseams (sp). I'm tired of seeing games where gladiators will fight alongside the armies.

Generally the total war games do try to be historically accurate but its likely that they will include some sort of elite army like the Viking Berserkers...

I can't wait for this game Medieval Total War was great. The battle system in Total War is awesome, nothing even compares. If they improved the rest of the game, nation building etc... Then this game would be great.

My dream of the perfect game would have the nation running of Europa-Universalis 2 and the Battle System of Total War

I will definitily grab a copy of this game. This thing seems to be great, though I never tried MTW.

actually, they did- during civil wars, desperate Roman general would draft gladiators amoung the ranks...

and yes, there is a huge load of units, if you check out the web site every week they up0date a unit profile, there is already a hefty sum of troops form assorted nations represented...

Well, I saw the programme tonight (Time Commanders). I missed the first half hour but what a great programme it was!

:goodjob:

And they beat the Romans.

I missed the first two minutes but I don't think they ever actually mentioned RTW... Some of the troop movements didn't seem quite right and also it did remind me that hopefully they will be adding loads of diplomacy options this time. I wonder if the AI had been specifically ordered to attack. My experience is that they will attack even without goading them.

The only possible problem, although this may because I was watching it on a small screen, was that on zoomed out map it was very hard to tell what was happening.

I missed it...damn parents told me to buy food :(
