I'v leaved in the US for some time now, but I can't seem to understand how the game is played. Can someone please explayne the rules to me?

Explain football...That's an awfull lot.

Let's see..The objective of the game is to score more points then the other team. There are several ways to score:
Touchdown (either running or passing) Worth 6 points
Fieldgoal (kick ball through goal posts) 3 points
Conversion after touchdown Kick ball through goalpost worth 1 point, attempt to get ball in from 2 yard line bt run or pass, 2 points
Safety Tackle an opposing ballcarrier or QB in their endzone, 2 points.

The game itself. Your have four downs, or chances, to advance the ball ten yards. Most of the time, if you don't make it, you kick the ball away, called a punt. This is done for field postion. Other wise the opposing team get's the ball at the spot were you failed to advance the ball from.
You can run or pass the ball.
There are a number of things you can't do, called penalties.
Penalties are assed in yardage.

The game is played in four 15 minute quarters, and you get 3 time outs per half (A half is 2 quarters)

There are more rules, but I'm tired of typing!

There's a book tittled "the complete idiot's guide to football". It should answer just about any questions you may have about the game.

Hmpf. I thought this thread would be about MY kind of football: soccer.

Canadian Football??? Are any Canadians playing???
smile.gif
No, actually all of the American Football rejects head north of the border to play in that Pansy league.
wink.gif

Actually I've watched a few games of CFL and discovered that it really isn't all that exciting football, it's just minor league football. (IMHO)

Sorry Willem, *speaking in my best old western sheriff type voice* us Americans can't stand to have too many soccer threads started up in this here forum. Soccer just ain't natural ya know

I disagree. !Tenga que tener la aficcion!

*extracts knife from back*

O.K., maybe I'm not sooo in the majority here....

And just so this post isn't spam:

Who here watched any XFL games???

Who here enjoyed them???

Oh! You're all talking about Pansy Football.
I thought you were talking about REAL Football. Rugby.

I know I am going to regret this, but. What's XFL?

the xfl was created by NBC and the wwf it was not very good so it only lasted one season.the xfl was basically the same as NFL but with some different rules.

Canadian Football Rules!

Bigger field, bigger balls (yeah, take that however you wish
biggrin.gif
), and way faster gameplay. None of those pansy ass rules like 'Free catches' or whatever, where the kickoff returner *****es out and doesn't wanna get hammered, or '4' downs

Then tell me why Football (soccer for you) is the most popular sport in Africa, South-America and Europa, is growing in Asia and Australia, and is the by childrens to 12 most important sport in the States?

1.FC Nuernberg promoted to the 1.Bundesliga, congratulate your friends that do like football from me?

FC Nuernberg is in big trouble
smile.gif
!

But the Soccer People of Nuernberg, who regularly make asses out of themselves after games, are probably pumped up about getting ready to lose to everybody in the Bundeliga now.

Soccer is pretty popular everywhere, but just imagine when all of those American 12 year olds grow up... Then the U.S. will dominate the world soccer scene.

IMHO of course

And now Flutie (after be screwed bad by Buffalo ) Is now the starter in San Diago? And Jeff has started in San Fran. for the last two years!!

Pansies.....we have a bigger field, less downs and aren't flooded with ex-cons (that's a cheap shot, I know )

The Rules of American Football, as seen by an Englishman...

"Decorate a bunch of grown men in metal, leather and padding until they look like complete idiots. Give them a bag of leather called a ball and then watch them behave like complete idiots as they pummel it and themselves relentlessly for three hours. There is a scoring system but it doesn't matter. As soon as anything interesting is about to happen the game will stop and everyone will discuss how to make sure nothing interesting happens again. At the end of the game everybody celebrates. This is not surprising."

I would comment about Rugby, but I truthfully don't know enough about it, except that a bunch of men running around who are in bad need of dental hygiene and/or dental repair chase the guys from Fiji, who always seem to be scoring
wink.gif
.

Cornmaster: San Diego and San Francisco are such great teams!!! My dead Grandma could play quarterback for those teams and do a better job.
wink.gif

Actually I like Flutie, but I still think my dead grandma is better.

As for Jeff Garcia, he plays for the 49ers. Anyone could throw to those recievers and look good!!! That's probably why he is there
smile.gif
.

Name one good (I mean, GOOD) Canadian football player. And then think aboot (
wink.gif
) how badly he would be maimed if he played REAL football.

Sadly, someone will prove that there is one, and I will be wrong, but life's about taking chances EH???

A little fun at your expense, feel free to return the favor

Hey now, I wouldn't mind seeing more rugby... I watch hockey and boxing mainly, but rugby would probably stick in my repertoir if the US came up with a non-XFL type rugby league...

lol.gif
Well, Stormerne, it's true! Rugby is much better compared to that American Football thing!

If you say that Flutie is a bad player...then you don't have a sweet clue about football.

And that's all there is too it!!!

But...to humor you
tongue.gif
. Other great CFL players:
Lui Passaglia (Kicker)
Allen Pitts (Reciever)
Mike Pringle (Runningback)
Darren Flutie (Runningback/Reciever)
Doug Flutie (Quarterback)
Tracy Ham (Quarterback)
Ron Lancaster (Quarterback)
Henry Williams (Special Teams)
Michael Clemons (Special Teams)

And that's just a partial list. I had to cut many good players to make this list so

Well, for a bunch of "idiots", The Big Blue Machine sure seems to do a good job at winning football games. Not only do they have the highest number of wins in ALL of NCAA Football (somewhere in the neighborhood of 805), they also possess the highest winning percentage as well. And let's not forget to mention the Victors' virtual ownership of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Defeating the hated rivals from Columbus in 12 of their last 15 contests.

As for your prediction on the "skunks" vs. the mutts on 9/8/01, perhaps you'd like to make some sort of wager????
