I downloaded the manual on how to edit WBS files. Thanks for posting this valuable info.

But I am having some trouble with the file.

For one thing, when I save the WBS file from inside the game, it saves it NOT in the Firaxis folder in Program files, but in a folder under the C:\Documents and Settings\Username.... folder. It shows up in the game scenarios menu, but its hard to find for editting.... the manual doesn't mention this, or I just missed it.

Once I found the file, I edited it to give myself a bit more starting cash. This was the Desert War scenaio, btw. I follow the manual's instructions and go to the player data and edit the starting cash using a text editor. I save it back the way to the folder its in.... go to the game, and choose it in the scenarios.

The scenario brings me up to the "choose your civ" screen, I choose my player, and then it comes up and drops me onto the beginning screen where it tells me my civ has knowledge of two ancient techs... like I am starting in the ancient times of a regular game. Then it starts to load, it says "initializing" and the green bar is about 1/8 across, and it just hangs. I have to reboot the computer to get past this.

What have I done wrong?

I tried saving the file then back to the regular folder under Program files\Firaxis\Sid... but no difference, still hangs the same way.

If I edit the scenario on the first turn using the in-game WBS, then save the game, I can resume the savegame no problem.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Desert War scenario is a full blown mod. It contains python scripts and xml mods. It must be saved in the ../Civilization IV/PublicMaps folder or it will not work.

Reason: it has its own ../Mods folder. While it is in the ../Documents and Settings/username/My Documents/My Games/Civilization IV folder it will not be able to find the required Mods folder.

Thanks for the response, that clears it up.

but... IIRC, when prompted where to save it, I told it the regular and correct folder. I even moved the .WorldBuilderSave file to the correct folder, tried, and it still hung up.

But I am not sure, so I will implement the needed changes you suggested, and try again.
