Last night I saw the smartest thing I have ever seen the AI do
I was playing a game of RaR on a random map of mainly small islands. I had an ROP with one of the civs that had 4 or 5 cities total, all on one island. They had iron, elephants, saltpeter and I think horses. I had 2 units on the island and started moving them to cover the the iron and elephants since those were the resources that made the most dangerous units that civ had the tech to build. my plan was to pillage those tiles when I started a war with them so that they couldn't rebuild as affective of an army as the war went on. It was going to take 2 turns and after the 1st turn the AI moved out elephant riders to cover the resouce tiles.
As long as I kept my units at least 2 turns worth of travel away from any of their resources they kept all units in their cites. As soon as I moved towards the resources they would cover them.
Pretty smart

Cool nice find

I had the AI aim for my resources during a war by bombing raids and pillaging

And more proof of inteligent AI... Only when they want to be inteligent that is.

I find it enormously amusing when the AI does something smart enough to be worth a post. They are usually so predictable. ;)

yes i love it also when the ai atcually does something i dont expect them to do
i loved it in rise and rule when mali horsemen ripped through my civ i couldent hold them back then they dimanded 4 cities for peace...........which i had no choice to accept

well, in the same game I also got to see the AI make a huge mistake. France started a war with me even though I was way ahead in tech and number of units. granted most of my units were not on their island, except for the garrison of the cities I had on that island. I quickly moved in units and destroyed them.

I have frequently seen the AI build fortifications on top of resources and then garrison them. Very frustrating stuff. Many times I end up dancing with AI settlers near resources. Sending in 4+ units to wall off their advance. Sometimes they turn back, but more often they tend to get pissy and just plant a city as close as they can.

I've noticed that often if their culture overtakes one of their colonies it will become a fort, which makes sense as the colony would have had buildings and stuff

I'm playing a rise and rule game right now too, and as soon as I discovered aluminum, the arabs blasted my resource near occupied Medina (I'm Vikings) with privateers even thoguh we weren't at war.

In a normal C3C game I played, my first one at Emperor level, I had the misfortune of having four Iron resources (in an 8 player game!), and the AI all really hated me and once we were at war, the only peace treaty they would accept were iron cities. I wouldn't give in and ended up retiring before I even discovered gunpowder.
