Scenario preview: Europe 1556

Well originally I had divided up Italy between the Papal States, Venice, Genoa, and Florence, but I like them combined more. As for Germany, the Austrians essentially represent the Catholic Germans and the Germans are the Protestants. All their cities are in what were Protestant principalities, granted their culture extends into Catholic areas.

Hi. Looks great. A pity we must always shop the ottomans down to their most european possessions... I agree with Sarevok, the Southern States of Germany are mostly catholics, and among them Bavaria was way politically closer to Austria than to the Northern German States. Two states for Germany would be a good compromise and avoid the creation of a powerhouse where there was none. In Italy, the absence of Venice is hard to swallow; it would be good as a counter power to the papal states.

Keep the good work! :)

The city that looks like it is Munich is actually Regensberg (Ratisbon) a major city in the Upper Palatinate. The Upper Palatinate was a Protestant State and a habitual enemy of the Hapsburgs. The other cities in Germany are Berlin, Leipzig, Kassel, all in Protestant states that were traditional enemies of the Hapsburgs; Hamburg and Frankfurt were imperial cities that were largely Protestant; and Strassburg, which had a large Catholic population, but also was a major center of Calvinism. I could squeeze maybe two or three Catholic cities in, but it would just make the map very crowded.

This scenario takes place after the wars of religion in Germany, so I felt it not necessary to divide Germany. In my playtests Germany never really gets very strong. The Germans have the Fuedalism government, which is significantly worse than the Catholic and Protestant governments. Germany also has a low aggression level. Despite the weakness of Germany it is difficult to attack Germany because of the Landsknecht unit, which has a very good defense.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will use that unit graphic for the English Race-built-Galleon.
