My first time I played I only got to the Ironclad ship and then the game was over because It was 2500. Can someone tell me exactly how to produce techs in 4 turns. I don't get what the scientist citizens do either. And also please give some a timeline of what techs and what time zones I need to be in by what year. Thanks
Also and tips would be great.

Here's the best hint:

Just don't worry about it, keep on playing and improve your strategy ;) !! In your first games, you won't do very well, but you'll see, you will eventually get techs faster and faster if you follow the advices given (Marx has given you some nices ones).

Happy gaming!

Evincar is right - playing is the best way to learn!

You could look in the strategy articles forum - some good stuff there - I found a lot of it helpul - especially when first starting as there is so much to learn.

An important point though, is that the science rate is much slower at Chieftain than on higher levels so techs tend to researched much slower and thats probably why he only got to Ironclad ships...

is regent faster or the fastest or is diety
and if diety is the fastest is that the only way it gets harder?

I think you should try to build lots of cities and concentrate on culture and science ie. temple than library

Even when I used to play on chieftan I always got to space race by 2050!?

Mabey you shouls use the governors to emphasise science

Deity is by far the fastest when your'e talking about the rate at which everyone gets to middle ages, industrial, and modern. On my last deity game the world (except me:mad: ) modernized in 740 A.D. That is pretty common at that level. So I think the difficulty level is the biggest factor.

If you want to get ahead quicker, make an effort to explore as much as you can early on and contact every civ on your continent. My experience is that each civ early on has their own different techs. Some have pottery, some have warrior code, etc, but they don't have them all. You have to be that one who gets pottery from one guy, then trade to get warrior code from the other, etc. You'll be the one who gathers all the pieces of the puzzle while everyone still only has their one or two pieces. If you pass them up early on, then you have a shot at those wonders. Just try to avoid trading communications yourself. Don't let England talk with France or whatever. That will let them catch up faster.
