Scoring system problems

I've posted this complaint about Civ3's scoring system before. That was when I thought you didn't get any scoring bonus for actually winning the game, since I've never seen one when I've won via a few different ways -- culture, spaceship, diplomatic.

Well, now I see on this site's new Hall of Fame that some people are getting insane scores like 12,000. I download one of them, and the guy won by conquest on a tiny map, wiping out three other civs by 1000 BC with a basic yard-out-the-units-and-rush strategy.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. But 12,000 freaking points?? Clearly there's a bonus, although it still isn't actually listed on the scoring screen. And clearly it must be based largely on how fast the victory occurred, even though I don't see anything necessarily more difficult to a quick-rush win than, for example, a 20,000-culture-city win.

Here's what I wish Firaxis would address (BTW if anyone has seen a post by one of the Firaxis guys on this subject, let me know.)

1. The bonus should be listed/explained on the score screen, instead of being this mysterious behind-the-scenes thing it is now.
2. It should be granted for all different types of victory, and if it has to be higher for a fast win, it shouldn't be anything *close* to as much higher as noted above.
3. It should factor in the difficulty level (i.e. Deity, Monarch etc.)Again, due to the lack of info, I can't tell if it is now or not, but it doesn't seem to be.
4. Probably the best way around all this is to add a scoring system tab in the editor and let players suit themselves. If they let you monkey with the actual gameplay rules, I don't see why not this as well.

Yeah I know the feeling with the scoring system. I won with a spaceship and only got about a 200 point bonus. Well It dosen't matter to me, I just play for the fun of it.

I looks like the main score is how much land you control, or perhaps the percentage of the total you control.
I am currently working on a conquest/domination victory, but Don't know if I can prevail that long. I currently control about 40% on a large world, but the battles are long and hard. In addition, I will have to go to war to get coal....
So I retired, last night, just to see what would happen. With 40% or th eland, a score of 1500 on the board, with the nearest competitor being at 600, and having never been behind on score-- I lost the game on points. ??? I had 1200 points for land, 140 for regular/specialist poeple, and 160 for happy people.
