screenshot problems

I've been hoping to take some screenshots of a SMAX game, but when I use Print Screen the results look like this:

That's an actual in-game screenshot.
I also tried using a dedicated screen-capture program (screenhunter) which is slightly better...

...but the colours are still wrong especially in the interface. The image is also covered in all kinds of little glitches which you may not be able to see due to the reduced size

Has anybody had any success with getting clear, true colour screenshots?

Yeah, you have to alt-tab to paint and then paste it, otherwise it's just black like that. Even then, there's still a color error.

I've had some luck with a fix for a different problem, for SMACX there's an option you can change to allow it to resize for wider screens, I've found alt-tabbing to do a screenshot with that option changed works better.

Yeah, it's just like Civ III..... You have to have your paint program (preferrably a GOOD one like GIMP, Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop) running in the background and alt-tab and paste the pic into the program while SMAC is running, otherwise you get the black screen like in your first pic.
