Its probably too late to suggest but... recently watching Discovery I was reminded that the course of history is sometimes shaped by unique, one-off events that become so recognised that they have a near-legendary quality. For example, Kublai Khan's attempt to conquer Japan was supposed to be destroyed by a Kamikaze (Divine Wind - actually, more like a typhoon). IIRC, DAK's gain's in WWII seem fully rooted with Rommel's presence, and his sickness made the Germans lose much ground they took in North Africa. Admiral Nelson was instrumental to defeat the French in Trafalgar, but died afterwards. The Spartan 300 held the Persians at Thermopylae, and exhausted their relevance in the stage of world history.

etc etc, but my knowledge is limited.

While the game itself does not require scripted events, I bet modders and scenario makers would love the ability to script hidden events and make their creations a lot more specialised and (probably) more engaging in the process.

So, since Civ4 is well on its way to going Gold, perhaps we can see some added functionality in an ExPac if we can't have this in the vanilla? :)

Yes. That's what I mean. A certain set of conditions that must be fulfilled for some things to happen in the game outside the normal game rules.

I'm sure that's what you've been told, but it is actually a legend. It never happened. See "In Little Need of Divine Intervention" by Takezaki Suenaga.

I agree with your main point though, I miss the earthquakes from civ 1. It should be optional though like a 'random events' thing you can play with or not. They could include all sorts of fun stuff that could alter the game.

The expansions to civ 2 came with toys that made this possible (if anyone else remembers the @EVENTS File :D) so I am optimistic about this sort of thing making its way into civ 4!

From what I have read. Python XML will allow for complete scripting of events in Civ4. I also here that, unlike C++, the Python Language is so easy that even a novice could use it. Also, the AI and Interface code will apparently be open to modding as well-through another mechanism.
Does that answer your question?

:) Yup. Thanks. Now I can't wait to get the game...
