Refrigeration is back, right? Does that mean Supermarkets and Farmland are, too?

For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, in Civ 2, the Refrigeration tech allowed you to 'upgrade' irrigated tiles to farmland, representing modern agriculture and logistics and stuff, and producing +1 food.
A city needed a supermarket improvement though, to get this benefit.

In Civ 1 and 3, railroads increased food production in irrigated tiles.

What is better? Which way does Civ 4 go? :)

Biology grants +1 food per farm. It also allows you to farm any tile.

My belief, based on some things I've seen and read, is that you can only build farms on tiles with the fresh water +2 health bonus (along rivers and around lakes) an no where else. You can't daisy chain farms until you discover Civil Service, at which point you can build farms next to irrigated farms.

That help?

Yeah, that sounds awesome :) :) :)

there is also a supermarket city improvement, if i'm not mistaken.the overview section lists it as such, but gives no other explaination.

I'm guessing the Grocer and Supermarket improvements are more for health than for food. That would be conceptually cleaner. Tile improvements increase food, city improvements increase health.
