Second May Update

Congratulations to Mad2rix, zerksees & Denniz on becoming Quartermasters. I was bored this morning so checked on the availability of empty tables. Wow, there are still 61 of them. There are 14 100K empty tables, 13 Diplomatic and Spaceship Race empty tables, 10 20K empty tables, 9 Conquest empty tables, and only 2 Domination empty tables.

To become a full QM, all I have left to do is to win a Chieftain game.:D That will be the tough because I haven't yet finished a Chieftain game. For some reason, I usually abandon my chieftain games and have no desire of fininishing them. I guess I'm expecting an optimal play at that level and when things don't turn out very well, I lose the desire to continue. As for higher level, I don't even expect to win; therefore, the feeling of betting the odds some how motivate me to keep on going. I won't be making QM any time soon. My guess is that I will retire Civ3 without ever reaching for QM.

@Moonsinger, a Chieftain win isn't necessary for the QM, you only need 6 out of the 8 difficulties. Of course, most people will probably avoid Deity/Sid, but if you want to avoid Cheiftain then that's fine with the rest of us!

Thanks.

More trivia: There are 15 Sid tables, 14 C3C deity, 11 demigod/deity, 8 emperor, 6 monarch, 4 regent, 3 warlord and 0 chieftain tables open. Large Sid 100K anyone? :crazyeye:

BTW: In my mind you are a QM wether or not you finish that one game.

@Moonsinger: I fully agree with Mistfit here. I would like to see you in that table though, just for realities sake. I don't think I should be that high in that list anyway (not that I won't try to stay there, of course :mischief: ).

Congrats to all who entered games. Keep it up!

Thanks for the clarification, Dianthus!:) I didn't know that you can skip a level or two.

Why not? Your games were very good!:goodjob: Your QM place was well earned!:) Between GOTM and here, how did you manage all that? What is your secret?

The GotM gets neglected by me ATM... If someone knows how to be at two places at once, please tell me. :)

As far as my HoF games go, in my last thread I've said it: I just start one game with a specific goal and stick with it. Only my histo games took longer than 30 hours, and in total I've only submitted 16 games so far, 7 of which were on tiny worlds.

Small Sid Space&Diplo are just waiting for me. I just have to beat C3C Deity first....

Submission Cutoff for next update is in 67 hours and 27 minutes.

Congrats to all submitters!

Although I'm not active at this period, I'm looking at the updates!
One thing though - I hold 14 #1 score slots, and I'm wondering if there are or were ANY attempts to break those..
Please challenge me!

On a hint note, I think my {Large, Chieftain} spot is the easiest to break, since it was my only milking attempt, and I also didn't think that abusing the "minus money" was allowed at the time (and I was wrong..)

So, with love to you all and less intervention in the HoF, I go on to play Pinball!
Since I am bored, and I need a histograph win for Quartermaster still (and dont feel like playing huge sid atm :p), I have decided to take you on on this challenge :)

Yay! :D

@boogaboo,

Since you conquered mostly with swordmans on your Sid game, do you think it can be done faster with the Persians or the Celts? What would be your take on this?

I can't even remember those games, but I found their thread -
On posts 63-67 of http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=86579&page=2&pp=40 lies my #1 Sid game main analisis.

The notes indicate that "Since I used mostly JAGs and archers, I won't seek Iron based civs anymore." (post 63)

On the Persians : "Persians are no good as well.
Building a barracks and starting a stupid war gets me at 2300BC at best with Iron connected if I'm lucky.
One thing it doesn't do... I still have two enormous giants at my sides.
So what if I can produce Immortals?
I'll be lucky to have the money to upgrade 2 warriors, and now I got to avoid the 2 stacks + about 16 cities with my few immortals closing to 2000BC???
No way.
The only nation that can do ANY harm before 3000BC is certainly the Aztec." (post 67)

On the celts : nothing.. except when I started I thought they may be good for domination, but I don't think they can..
The celts need iron, and aren't militaristic, so you don't get a very early war and GA..

My take on it? I'd stick with Aztec and micromanaging every move and hope for a better luck, but it was a great high.. ;)

Thanks boogaboo!:) For some reason, I don't get much luck with those jag warriors. They are just too weak! In my game, a half dozen jags couldn't even take on one spearman. Of course, I didn't use any archers; may be that was my problem.

I think I used barracks, so those are 4 HP JAGs, and also you can have hope for some cities when their spearmen aren't yet produced.
Sneak attacks and peace cycle goes a long way sometimes, although on Sid it would be best to just finish the civ so as to go deal with the other AI.
Getting to 15-20 shields in a GA, and producing that JAG/Archer per turn is crucial.
Archers can start moving towards a capital while you waste other cities/AIs, stacking before the final attacks.

I still think this is a hard high score to beat, and remember being very proud of it..

I rushed a barracks right away; therefore, all my units are vets. Producing Jag in almost every turn isn't a problem at all, but those spearmans are very tough to kill. My feeling is that I rather have a couple of gallic swordmans instead of a dozens jags.;) I figure...around turn 30 something, I could trick ask them to hand over all their gold (which probably will be around 200 gold each). Between the two AIs, I should have enough gold to upgrade 4 warrirors to gallac swordmans. Trigger the golden age to roll out new gallic swordmans in every two turns...I think I will give the celts a test run.

Yes, it's a very hard score to beat. You should be very proud! :goodjob:

You will have a very hard time finding a suitable map for this...
The main problem in Sid level on tiny is how far can you let them expand before each strike - they can produce far faster, and start with too many - so I think that whoever is left untouched in the beggining, is very hard to deal with afterwards (hence my small map Sid failure).
You have to find Iron working, find Iron and connect it before ANY attack..
This takes too much time in which the 2 AIs grow too strong and a quick conquest seem impossible..

The Aztec advantages are mainly their fast JAGs and militarism (for barracks).
I start mapfinder on a river to get a bonus food, and I don't think I rush barracks - it cost me a population I need when I want to grow to size 6-7 to reach 15 shields on the GA.

I can see no option but Aztec :mischief:
