This is the world map from my 2nd game, around 1500 AD. I'm the blue guys. Does anyone see a way that I can win?

Yes, by purusing a policy of rapid expansion combined with aggressive overseas naval bombardment...or just jack your culture up through the roof, since it's getting late to try my first suggestion :)

Use diplomacy to turn all the other empires against one of them. Watch that empire crumble beneath the combined weight of the world. Chuckle evilly. Repeat.

But wouldn't this strategy eventually amount to one gigantic superpower breathing down your neck?

That Map shows that you are one lucky bastard ;)
I mean: you got 2 Islands for yourself, the bigger one of them is about half the size of the main continent. Simply place a few more cities, then build cultural buildings and go for an cultural victory!

Go north young man ;)

Unless the Purple guy has allies, beat up on the weakling.

Another possiblity - Do what I just did in my current game. Build up your attack forces, and wait for the computer to start a war against another. I took over 70% of Zululand after I noticed three other computer players turn on him. My knight army ripped through him in no time.

Another question - What is the resource distribution like? This may give us some additional ideas.

No, teal is different. It's light blue, or (more correctly) cyan.
Anyhow, my advice is to go for either a UN or space victory. You may even be able to get a cultural victory! Good Luck! You've got a better setup than my first game! :)

 You're best bet is to just ride it out and let the ba$tard$ pick each other off. Gear up with your navy and when they beat themselves down to two opponents, go in and wipe up. In the meantime you look nicely insulated in your island isolation there. Have a margarita and kick back in the sun.

Or not.

Shemp :smoke:

It's hard to say from the map, but I would suspect that those masses of enemy cities are all size 4-6. Build yours bigger, found some in the empty spaces, and go for cultural or space win.

You might be advised to keep a small expeditionary force available to capture foreign resources. This works wonderfully to keep their advancement slow and their military weak.

yes, but it so much easier to fight a war when EVERYTHING is a legitimate target.

*curious* What do you mena by capturing foreign resources, by conquering the enemy city that holds them?

the idea is that a weaker enemy is easier to fight. By either severing their connections to resources or taking a city and using it's radius to "capture" strategic resources, you may be able to keep them from producing, say, for example, gunpowder units.

In one of my air campaigns, I used my aircraft carriers to bomb oil fields, keeping the enemy from building it's most dangerous weapons with which to strike back. During this process, I then used my transports to seletively take certain cities.

You cannot take a continent of a superior enemy directly...you must be strategic insofar as much as possible.
This means navies, bombartment, and careful beachhead insertion.
