Settlement Plan

Sorry i just wanted to post the 100th post

Seriously though i agree with dutchfire to send the settler to the copper as i believe we don't have a metal yet

Copper would be nice, but do we have an estimate about

- how long it would take to get it mined and connected?
- whether the road would survive the first French attack?

If we could find some Iron closer to home, that would be a lot nicer.

unfortunately we have no idea where iron would be and it doesn't appear that our tech path will be crossing over iron working very soon. I believe the road to the copper would survive a French attack, we now have the cow gold city, which will offer significant protection to that route.

First things first though we need to see that that spot is open by sending chariot 2 to scout out the location.

I feel that we should expand some more. Any suggestions for a next city site?

This is going to be a tough call, if we want to keep pressing in on the AI's we're going to want to settle in the band of jungle that runs across the continent, however this is tough land to work, and we may be better off settling in non-aggressive locations which will have better growth potential and production.

The objectives of settling cities should be acquiring resources, and good production / commerce / food locations. We need a high food location to serve as a GP farm. After we're stong enough, we can consider skipping jungle and desert areas to settle the other side.

jungle + workers = grassland cottages = lots of :gold:

we plan to get it next turn, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Well I've been looking at the map and I think I've found a good spot for a GP farm. the most southern shattered lake has a source of rice and a source of cows around it, as well as a good number of grassland squares. I propose that we place our next city 1NW of the rice and farm the surrounding regions so that our city can have a large number of specialists.

The GP farm is only really effective is you have a lot of buildings, wonders or civics which allow for specialists and/or encourage GPs. Otherwise, they're just stuck with the odd scientist or priest.

Could you post a screenshot of your city location in mind?

You're right, that's why if we decide to go for this as a GP farm I would recomend that we adopt the caste system. Here's the screen shot you requested.

Hmm looking at the turn chat maybe we should move that proposed city site one square to the west, a source of iron has been found in the plains to the west, which would be accessible with a small change of location

Beat me to it -- maybe 2 squares west, too. I think we need to get atleast 1 more settler out, then grow our cities (and build cottages), while preparing for war -- Daveshack seems to think France is up to something with their spike in the powergraph...

I think moving the settler of 1W is enough. There's also a nice city location for a coastal city East of Equus Aurum.

I don't think the AI settlers will steal that spot from us right now, so I suggest we expand north to grab more land.

Neither do I but how long do we want to wait with exploring other continents?

Eh.. we are nowhere near optics so I think that can wait for a while. Other equally good spots should be settled first.
