I think I'll change all of the names of our cities. How about X-ville for the capital, Ivoryville, and Pigville?
I wonder if we should really be building a barracks in Pigville. The best we could do if we build a barracks there is to whip one population for the barracks and one population for a cat when Construction finishes. Wouldn't it be better to trade a barracks and a cat for 3 axes? That would make it easier to justify building a barracks in Ivoryville, where we could build 2 promoted axes and whip a promoted cat (instead of getting 3 unpromoted axes and 1 unpromoted cat).
We can begin the assault as soon as we have a single cat ready. The first wave will have to take on Shaka's new city (Riceville), and one suicide cat should do the job there.

Looking at the save this morning, I think this is a good idea. It'll take too long to get the Rax done to be of much good.
Once the assault starts on Shaka, we might consider a Galley there to carry a settler over to the Marble. The Work Boat is nearly there to check out the surrounding area to see if anyone might be coming to settle there from the east?

T70) Revolt to Slavery and Bureaucracy. Sign open borders with Joao. Turn all espionage on Joao.
T71) Out of revolt. Sailing in 2 turns at 80% research. Shaka sending another archer toward his new city. Axeman spotted in Ulundi. Going to prebuild axe in Ivoryville for 1 turn in case we need to whip one. Grass mine completed
IBT) Prophet born in a far away land.
T72) Axeman spotted in Shaka's copper city. Pig pasture completed.
IBT) Temple of Solomon built in a far away land.
T73) Sailing->Masonry. Confucianism spreads in Ivoryville. X-Ville barracks->lighthouse. Axe from copper city blocks warrior, so warrior retreats west. Ulundi's copper is unmined.
T74) Whip lighthouse for 1 pop in X-ville. X-ville Pop6. Zulu axeman is chasing our warrior near copper city.
T75) Masonry->Construction. X-ville Pop7 (unhappy), lighthouse->GLH. Pigville Pop2. Ivoryville Pop4. Chop 4 forests into GLH. Eastern workboat is finding no eastern route but finds a hut on an island. Shaka sends second impi toward new city.
T76) X-ville GLH->axeman. Shaka's axeman has our northern warrior trapped, so I delete him (saves us 1 gpt). Other warrior spots Joao's borders. Convert to Confucianism.
T77) Come out of revolt. Western workboat comes to a dead end.
T78) Mine accident destroys mine near Pigville. I choose the free option of 10 turns with 1 unhappy face. All 4 workers rebuild it immediately (they were about to get bored anyway). X-ville axeman->axeman.
T80) Ivoryville axeman->axeman. Zulu axeman from copper city approaching Ulundi.
I think we might want to consider signing a cease fire with Shaka now. He hasn't chopped any forests yet and he still has a copper unmined and a cow unpastured that would occupy his workers for a few turns. It also might open up trade routes with Joao for a few turns, since our coastal route is blocked by Shaka's borders.
We have 3 new axemen in our borders and 5 more on the way before Construction, which is due in 3 turns. Our army is shaping up nicely.

Our workboats have come to a dead end. We'll have to go around our north coast to find more AI. The two workboats can stick around the marble island and net the two additional fish there. There is another fish south of the marble island, so Marbleville will have 3 fish in its FC, making for a very nice secondary GS farm.
After a galley has dropped off a settler on marble island, it can also take a scout to pop the hut (or save it?) and then venture around the north coast.
On the larger island south of our territory is stone. We could build a city with stone sheep, and clams, (and maybe something else). This would help out a lot if we want to build any stone wonders, like Pyramids. The intercontinental trade routes would make the maintenance bearable.
We've got the GLHouse and are preparing to take on Shaka!
Roster: Killercane - UP rrau - On Deck
Cactus Pete
leif
ShannonCT - just played!
Mad Professor - There must be an internet connection around here somewhere? Frederiksberg - Taking a break. Jimmy Thunder - On Sabbatical Gator - RL!
It seems to me that it has become imperative for us to take out Shaka in order to free up trade routes and open the way for exploration to the north. We have Ivory and, thus, our UU. We need HBR to use it, but I'm not sure it is worth the research time atm.
Research - Aesthetics and then Literature, Alphabet? Then it seems we need to spend some time at the bottom of the tech tree. Caravels anyone?
I like the stone city site. Our Work Boat will uncover the rest of the area in a turn or two. We should have Lit in about 15 turns, so it would be nice to have Marble hooked up for GLibrary, in X-ville?
One city, unknown to us, now contains Stonehenge, Kashi Vishwanath and Temple of Solomon (that is two religions and two Great Prophets, Isabella?). Hope this trend continues. The Great Wall has been built, out there somewhere.
Now that we are getting to the point of having Shaka under control and are nearing 100 turns completed, we should begin to think a little more long term and start asking ourselves what the optimal completion date and victory condition might be. Can we test this? Do we need more map info before we can decide. If so, does Paper rise in priority? It is a 13-turn research atm. It might be nice to have Joao II's map, if he'll let it go.
Looks fantastic! How many units are in Nobamba and what type? We can send axes there before cats no real need to wait.
Stone AND marble city have to be claimed soon, probably stone quicker in order to chop the Pyramids. Great Library isnt in as much danger as it. Representation will allow us to grow to size 11+confu temple(12)+whatever else we come across.
Can anywhere besides the capital build the necessary galley to escort the two settlers to their resources? WIth those 2 cities, we should have 7 (5 native, 2 Zulu, all coastal!). We can probably build the next 3 in the early ADs or thereabouts.
The problem with the cities is at least 2 are poor hammer cities for building a uni to get Oxford up. Maybe we can initiate a golden age, switch to US (if Pyramids), and rush a uni in one of those around the time the other unis complete. Regardless, around that time would be good for our first golden age.
There are at least two archers and two impi there. Plus, Nobamba has been whipped. We can at least take a peak. Next turn, we'll have 6 axemen and a spear to attack.

If we switch to Galley in Ivoryville and Settler in X-ville, they will both complete in 4 turns, just after Construction finishes. Then they can pop their Axes and move on to Cats? This way we can send the Settler and a Worker to Stoneville, via the Galley, and be ready to chop Pyramids in Ulundi.

We dont want to delay the invasion force. We should be good to go right after we finish a cat or 3. Ivory city can build a galley a few turns early to coincide with the settler down south. Where is the stone island?
Hmm stone island makes me think of Moai. Moai would be super strong in the capital. Could it be our second national wonder (w/ Oxford) there?
Wouldn't we need Open Borders in addition to a cease fire in order to open trade routes with Joao? Need to move our spear if we don't get Cfire.
"Our workboats have come to a dead end. Well, probably. We'll have to go around our north coast to find more AI. Not necessarily -- see immediately below. The two workboats can stick around the marble island and net the two additional fish there."
Playing the devil's advocate, let's at least consider not bulding the Pyramids. There's an excellent canal city site south of horses and north of cows that we might want to settle soon (in particular, after the marble city but before the stone city) and perhaps sail a galley through, opening trade routes. Wouldn't that allow us to trade with Joao (and hopefully others) without attacking Shaka's Copper-hill city? By leaving Shaka with a city -- that is, not eliminating him -- it will allow more tech trade possibilites. If we plan to do that, we should research Alphabet in time to sue for peace and a tech. What about building the Shwedegon Paya, allowing all religious civics, instead of the Mids? This would allow us to use a GS for Optics instead of Philosophy (and Pacifism). And, BTW, shouldn't we start running two scientists in X-ville again?COLOR]
"After a galley has dropped off a settler on marble island, it can also take a scout to pop the hut (or save it?) and then venture around the north coast." Sounds good, but what is the possible advantage of waiting?
I know Nobamba is a canal city, but it is not a very good one. Sure we want to keep it?
