SGOTM8 - Cutlery

Let's just finish this out as effectively as we can.
I meant nothing to oppose that, I'm just confident in our abilities :mischief:

Got it...

Helos don't need an airport of any kind. Range 6, load of 3.

I finished this last night and then I couldn't get to the darn site. I was able to upload the game however. Anyway....

No pictures.

1300 AD Abstract
Alex and Ragnar are still at war.
Lizzy is up Refining and Steel but we have Sci Meth, Espionage and Electronics. As noted earlier everyone else is pretty far behind.
We’re researching Refining at 90% and it’s due in 5. Seven techs until Adv. Flight is complete.
We have ~1200g on hand.
The team has been doing quite a bit of MM’ing and quite nicely I might add.
We have 23 LB’s and three muskets and are 14 units below support level (72 units).
We have 10 more cities than Lizzy (32 vs 22), and are similarly ahead in population, so I’m not going to renegotiate the wines +2gpt (us) for incense (them) since we're obviously getting a deal.
We could trade Caesar for furs and silks but we don’t need them as we’re at 0% entertainment. Too bad you can’t buy surplus luxes and resell them to others.

Trades Investigation...
Tech Calc (Standard, Emp) Refining 4800g, SciMeth 3000g, Steel 4200g, Atheory 6000g, Electronics 5400g, Esp 2700g
10% Entertainment is 25g for our economy. Entertainment in England is certainly less costly. Hmmmm, she’ll give 61gpt for two luxes, which seems overpriced, but that’s fine by me.
Trade 1 To England: Gems, Dyes and Sci Meth for Refining +10g. We have oil in the northern Tundra!
We’re in no danger of losing Hovers. We’re 12 turns away at 45spt and Lizzy is building US and is 66 turns away at 8spt. (Investigation)
Trade 2 To England: Atomic Theory for Steel, 74gpt and 6g.

Let’s peak at Japan since they’re also building US and could by slight of hand get techs.
Embassy w/ Japan – Kyoto: 30spt, too much food, 7 rifles.
Tokyo – 17spt, building +4 food, 12 pop, 3 rifles, USuff 33 turns. No danger. (Investigation)

Trade 3 To England: Electronics, 8pgt, 8g, for Combustion
We’re now at parity w/ Lizzy! (Not counting Fascism and Demo)

Now that the techs are cheaper I’ll trade a bit w/ the less fortunate.
Sci Meth to Ceasar for two luxes some gold and a map.
OK, everyone else is poor as dirt and can stay that way.

Now we’re 4 techs from whirly-birds and can pace our techs to gather gold for rushing and upgrades.
Going through all the cities again it seems that they’re well MM’ed.
Pseudo-Greek will be at size 12 next turn and can use excess food to send peeps to the mountains.
I used the +2 food in WFCity to work the mountain and knock 2 turns off the factory. I understand wanting to grow to size 12 but we can get two workers out of Beijing and backfill joining two.

IBT:
We let the deal for ivory lapse because we just don’t need it. So we save 19gpt.
OK, now Elisabeth cancels the wines for incense deal. I knew it was good. We’ll go to the Japanese for the ivory if needed. Trade We sell the wines for 30 gpt + 17g. I swear she would be better off just upping her entertainment slider.
Vikes and Greeks make nice.

Horsetooth: duct – court (hire two CE’s (Civil Engineers))
English are building Hoovers in York at 42 spt in 16 turns. That was a risk I didn't think of but luckily we won't get burned.

1305 AD
Join two workers to WFC.
Pseudo MM’ed.
Lizzy has taken the tech lead again with Flight. We don’t need to purchase it yet.
I messed around w/ a gpt deal for Espionage and Lizzy seems low on cash flow. Let’s see how fast she gets her next tech (Esp or Mass Prod)

IBT
PHV: factory (39spt) – guerrilla (Needs MM'ing for 30 or 45spt)

1310 AD
Worker’s finishing all upgrades.
PHV @30spt, giving shields to Chicago and Idiot.

IBT
Wknife: factory – court

1315 AD
Joined workers to Wknife and production goes from 15spt to 25spt
Caesar has some money but gpt deals are right out with him.
Shuffle around units to eliminate flips and upgrade 3 LB’s.

1320 AD
Pseudo switched to Int Agency in 12.
Idiot Colour is cranking a court w/ CE’s since it’s ~50% corrupt.
Upgrade an LB.
Well, Elisabeth is collecting gold and is even more insulted at our offers for Espionage so she's either working it or in a cash flow crunch.

1325 AD
Upgrade two LB’s. BTW, it’s 150g ea.
Every tile around Chopstick’s is mined and it’s now at 17spt and building a factory.

1330 AD
Dorothy’s growing fast and needs to start bringing in CE’s for a market.
Idiot has +11 food at size 12 but it’s better for the economy to keep the peeps working tiles and waste the food. MM for tax or science is a net negative.
Scientists in "Not Athens" MM’ed to bring in Mass Prod in 1 turn.
That w#$%& Elisabeth beat us to Mass Production by a single turn. I hate her with the intensity of a thousand suns. [pissed]
This I don’t understand… She’ll give a lux, Demo and change for Espionage but will not pay (never ever) 20gpt. However, 10gpt is just fine so it's not a reputation thing. Now w/ 230g sitting in the till I would think 20gpt wasn’t a problem. As my children would say… “Whatever”.

IBT:
Witnessed a Japanese cavalry attacking a Viking city.
Mass Production is in and we set our sights on Motorized Transport (a.k.a. Tanks) in 6 turns at 100% research w/ +39gpt.

1335 AD
WKnife finishes the court with only a net gain of 2spt and a couple net gold. :(
Upgrade three LB’s (450g)
Build a fort on our northern gems 'cause the workers have little else to do.
Hiring cops in Coloured Cutlery is efficient to get gold and build the courthouse.
Switch Horseville-Two to a market due to fast growth and grumpy people.

IBT:
Pollution at PHVille.
Idiot Colour: court – factory (needs mining)

1340 AD
Idiot Colour mined.

1345 AD
Built some fortresses and a barricade or two.
Divided up some core city shields to get them to ~30spt each for three turn gorillas.

Interesting news regarding Elisabeth…
She’ll now give 118gpt for Espionage so she must have been in a bit of a crunch. I think we should sell it to her since we could use the cash.
And now the fun one… she doesn’t have any oil. “Grease my treads with her pasty white carcass!”

We could also use Espionage to purchase Flight but since the w#$%& doesn’t have oil I would rather trade her Motor (and whatever else) for Flight rather than spend gold.

Japan has a single source of oil near Shiminoseki on the southern island. That should prove an easy target.
Rome has oil and rubber but is weak and flabby.

Trade 4 To England: Espionage for 118gpt and 11g.

1350 AD
Elisabeth now has another tech... Ironclads!
A boatload of workers have nothing to do. Each stack has a unit left active.
Motor in 3 turns at 80% and +250gpt.
Hovers in 2.
Intel Agency in 6

Nice turns, jb.

Helos don't need an airport of any kind. Range 6, load of 3.
But they still need either a city or an airfield to operate from, right?

This I don’t understand… She’ll give a lux, Demo and change for Espionage but will not pay (never ever) 20gpt. However, 10gpt is just fine so it's not a reputation thing. Now w/ 230g sitting in the till I would think 20gpt wasn’t a problem. As my children would say… “Whatever”.
The AI won't trade more gpt than they have coming in. It doesn't matter how much they have in the bank.

OK, good point. If we win the spoon fair and square, that's fine with me.

If I may, many towns in the north could/should be transformed into worker pump so we can build eccentricly huge amasses of airfields everywhere to move tanks faster from one point to the other. Btw, thanks for the micro compliment, it makes me all fuzzy and warm (speaking of which I need to go out to freshen up, it's just too warm for October and that's wrong).

I'll be MIA for a few days, might post here and there but that's pretty much it.

I figured we would want workers for airfields but we didn't need masses of them right now. The northern cities are doing a swell job of boosting research.

Helos do launch from a city, and maybe an airport, but can drop units on any square (uninhabited) w/i range.

We can about self research to Adv. Flight while building up forces. After Adv. Flight the research goes to zero and all coins are for upgrades and rushing.

Are we going to go Commie or Monarch? [Edit] I think we almost have to given how spread out each AI is with the lone exception being the Vikings. If we don't we'll be spending our income on happiness and not units.

And if we stay out of Commie it might pay off to build some banks ans stock exchanges in the core cities to generate cash.

Here are my thoughts...

Lizzy is our biggest threat so it would be nice to kill her quickly.

We can't helo all the way to the Euro main continent so Herakleia is the key. As soon as Motor comes in we trade it to Lizzy for flight. If she needs gold then pay her w/ gpt cause it won't last long. With flight workers can become airfields and airfileds can be placed anywhere outside of AI territory. So we change the build in Herakleia to a worker, or rush the granery and then pop a worker, and turn that fellow into an airfield. At the same time we turn workers on the home turf into airfields in the tundra and mountains in the north. In three turns we can start unloading tanks and workers around Herakleia to start the next crop of airfields. With the completion of Adv. Flight we get a helo, or many, to drop off a combat settler and two infanty on the English continent. At this point it's probably throw-down time and she'll attack the defenders w/ gusto so land 'em in the jungle for the defensive bonus. We just need one turn of survival because the next turn the worker goes "airfield" and we lift in tanks. Game over.

If we shut off research after Adv. Flight then the gorillas will not evolve. Either plan on getting Rocketry or start manufacturing infantry.

We're going to need those native workers back.

Once we get to being the SOB of the known world I think Commie or Monarch is going to be needed. My vote is for Monarch.

Another path to take would be to go for Spice island to keep the people a little happier while we raze the planet.

my vote is despotism because whipping people sound cooler when they think you're a god

Stay republic. Why do we need the extra production outside of our core if we can airlift the tanks wherever we want as soon as they're built? WW should be easy to manage, once we control the luxes.

[edit]And can I just say, the new form features rock! No page re-loading after a quick reply, inline editing of posts...

England has Oil!!!

It's underneath the city of Cambridge to our NE. No harbors yet are on that island but you can bet that Lizzy will start some soon. Oil is also necessary for all of the larger ships. I'd rather see galleons landing troops than transports ;).

I'd trade her MT for Flight as soon as we get it then research Adv. flight.

Oil and Combustion. That's it. Every ship after that required oil except the Aegis Cruiser and Nuke sub.

republic or moanrchy.
i think cash would be more useful.

also infantry sounds cooler than gorillas.

still out of comission, so this is just a basic addition to the spam awards.
but i will be back monday :woohoo: and i also preodered Civ4 (will cost me about 75$ - i HATE local costums AND Amazon for not shipping here  )

The reason for geurillas was that they upgraded to TOW infantry (12.14) instead of just using Infantry (6.10). But we'll need to get Rockets before we can upgrade. Also they cost 90G ea. right now we have 15 so thats' 1350. We might want to start tanks.....

Okay... do we want to continue researching after Advanced Flight? Or do we want to go for Rocketry and Synth Fibers before shutting down? (Or even Fission, Space Flight & Satellites...? :nuke: :satan: )

I get the distinct impression eldar wants to nuke the snot out of someone.

Regarding governments, stay w/ Rep as long as we can. When the unwashed masses get pissed then switch to whatever I want. :)

We have built too many gorillas to not go for Rockets. I would research at a rather pedestrian pace but then I just wanted to use the word "pedestrian".

Also, for some reason last night I got all fired up about how to go about slaughtering the AI's in very sort order but given the posted scores there no reason we can't kill off the AI's at a rather (everyone with me here) pedestrian pace. Then again, pedestrians do get run over now and again.

Lizzy really does have to be the very first target. Tubby, thanks for ferreting out the oil. Make the Oil target 1a.

Remember: Copters can carry justa 'bout everything but tanks, three at a time and 6 tiles away.

Last random thought for morning... You can't land units on a tile that's occupied by anything including a worker. We might want to have a few bombers to recon and "clear" our landing zones.

So, if the English Devil has oil do we want to rethink sending MotorTrans her way? My guess is we still make that trade and especially if we can do it w/ a gpt deal that we've no intention of paying off.

Oow, oow! Can we make a completly bogus purchase w/ only gpt and then just sack the deal? Please say yes. :)

If we plan on not having to worry about re-negotiating any other per-turn deals after we do so.... I don't see why not!
