Long time player since CIV I. My favorites were II a IV. Looking at getting VI now. Steam offers a bundle for VI. Looks like it would give me everything including the expansions and scenarios. Anything else I need to get started?

That would be all. You should wait for the NFP to be completed to buy it, IMO.

It might be easier to start playing the game without the two expansion packs, to have an easier time grasping the main game mechanics without being overwhelmed by content
Hmm. To my mind no point in learning the game then relearning it twice over, just jump right in. If it's on a deal get it all including NFP.

I got the game free from Epic the other month and bought all the expansions, on sale and with the infinite vouchers, a week or two later.

Not a very big learning curve from vanilla and the Gathering Storm mechanics makes for a massively better game than vanilla.

They've got the Platinum Edition, which is everything except the New Frontier Pass, on sale for 40 quid.

What's the alternative to buying it? That's an important question. Virtually everyone here will tell you that they think it is, otherwise they wouldn't be on a Civ VI board. Whether it's worth it or not is dependent on what you'll be losing out on, and what you enjoy from Civ 6. Personally I definitely think it's worth the money, but that's me.
You can always disable the XPs, so its no loss beyond money and storage to get them. If you were new to Civ, I'd say okay vanilla first. It's slightly less complicated and less to keep track of, so it's easier. Then when you are confident, move on to the XPs (no need to break them up though, I learned just fine without any issues). Since you already play Civ, I don't think you need to break yourself in.
I don't have NFP so can't speak to that, but the XPs are definitely worth it. I got the DLCs for free, so couldn't say, since they just came part and parcel.

I say, get as much as you can. If the bundle gives you everything pre-NFP, get it. Every expansion makes the previous version look far too dull.
As for NFP, you may or may not wait for a sale. Not that it is not worth it, no. Everything inclusive earlier DLC, R&F and GS will likely last long enough for you until the first sale arrives. Most prominent NFP additions are optional modes, which are just wacky so far. They’re a bit surreal, but they’re also great fun when you already know the main game :)

Good stuff everyone and thanks for all the advice. I'll go with the bundle. Prefer to start with the latest expansion since they are more feature rich than vanilla.
