Some players have expressed and interest in participating in more general discussions of topics that may be broader than just Civ3 and GOTM specific issues but still with a strong reliance on the GOTM community of players.

The concept here would be to potentially support more freeform discussions that would be open to everyone but still with an emphasis on the perspectives of members who regularly play and participate in the GOTM events.

I think if it was Civ related and not a duplicate of the OT or other forums. There is often some good discussion in the spoilers and pre-game threads and I don't see the need to bring things that are address in Off Topic or site feedback to the GOTM forum.

If points about specific topics reguarding play or the game then maybe a highlight here is worth while. For example I wonder how many GOTM players have found Moonsinger's/ Ronald and Bamspeedy's discussion on MicroManagement in one of the other threads. The same discussion here may allow more players to get involved. Those types of discussion I think would be great but leave politics out.

In theory, I do like the idea because I am a chatter and would like to get to know people better. But I don't see how to implement a system that would bring everyone together and yet still be readable. I wouldn't want to have to catch up by reading through the 10 pages of posts that were added since I checked in. Thats sort of how I feel now with my late postings to the spoiler threads.

I also think that there is a big risk of adding more work to your spoiler police. Afterall, the "clubhouse" at a golf course is where everyone brags or gripes about their GAME.

Still it would be nice for the newbies/need-improvement to have a resident PRO on hand to answer questions or take a lesson from.

Or by clubhouse, do you mean the treefort kind with the "No Girls (Boys) Allowed" sign?

What does MM stand for?

Sorry Micro Management. I use MM as a shorthand in my SG and QSC games,.

I edited my original post to also include Ronald and Bamspeedy who also participated. In the Micromanagment thread.

EDIT: Sorry, cracker, I turned the poll into my own clubhouse, complete with bad jokes.

As long as you and everyone else are enjoying yourself, knock yourself out. Just let us know if we need to call you a cab. ;)

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite sure I've got my head around what you're proposing. If it's not Civ and/or GOTM related then surely OT is the place? What benefits are there for GOTM players?

If it's open to everyone how can it have an emphasis on the perspectives of members who regularly play and participate in the GOTM events whatever that might be.

I'm not criticising, I just don't get the point :( Perhaps you could enlighten me.

I think the idea is that the visitors mainly concerned w/GOTM would have a handy place to go somewhat OT w/o driving the mods crazy.

It sounds ok, though it may dup some other threads. The common element would be GOTM players, I presume.

well cracker, to see if this would work, I think you have only to look to the mac tournament forum. Even though a great deal of out GOTM discussion has been trasplanted into the broader GOTM forums (r are technically related), we still congregate in the tournament forum and discuss whole bunches of stuff that may be loosely realted to civ, and not related to macs at all.

I definatly think it's a good idea

Good idea, but how do you insure that there won't be any stalker among us?;)

I'm sure you'll arrive surrounded my Mechanized Infantry.

hehehe, stalker as in "Running Man" :D

I am sure civ players have a few screw loose on average...so maybe you have a point.

Stalkers are people too. :p

I would be more concerned with being trampled by Moonsinger's herd.

As a complete newbie to these forums I have to say that I fail to see when this new forum would be appropriate. Any gotm discussion or tactics, pertinent to it, should occurr in this forum. Any OT thread should appear in the general section.

Whilst I'm sure that there will be an overlap between the two at times, posting a wider thread in the general forum will still bring it to the attention of the many gotm players who make up the bulk of this forum. Any post can of course make explicit reference to the need for gotm player's input, but I feel that there will not be enough of these gotm-only wider issues to support a dedicated forum. Just my 2c (or pence!).

If you want to improve the system I suggest that you create a buddy system to pair newbies up with experienced players. You could establish a register of willing players, linked to their gotm performance as an indication of experience. These players would then be matched with players at the bottom of the tables who had produced a detailed timeline and were willing to receive critism on it.

Yes, but the herd has never hurt anybody; they are devoting most of their times to produce milk and a lot of milk to help us human grow stronger bones and to have better health, etc. On the other hand, stalkers often don't understand the word "no". If they don't get what they want, they would likely take the path of violent.

Welcome Bouchehog!

After having a bit of fun with this thread, I can see that there is a small place for a GOTM related chitchat thread. I agree that there is an OT thread that general discussions go. But many of the players here have "bonded" or at least developed a comradary from playing the same game with each other for month. It's nice posting in the QSC, Spoilers and Results thread, being able to give :goodjob:, encouragement and advice, as well as get critiqued and learn things. Having developed some of these relationships its nice to be able to say hi to some of the folks and let them know you're reading what their writing. Many time the comments are things that don't really fit in to results or spoilers but it seems a waste to PM the person when you really want to let the whole thread see what you're thinking.

Example:
Bouchehog, I noticed that your game of the month scores have gone up a thousand points in each of the last 3 GOTM. You're really improving! Got any advice for the rest of us.

Trouble is, I'm not sure how to implement a clubhouse that wouldn't just end up being a really long chat log. Plus the problems of spoilers/duplication of other threads.

@Moonsinger
All joking aside, yes stalkers are scary, even for men, but I suspect more so for women. I wish we both had as much control over society as we do in the Civ world. (Although I guess there'd be a lot more war:lol::hammer:)
