I'm playing a LAN game with my kids. My PC is server. My son's laptop takes ages to get going. He joins the server but it's really slow to go from the bit where Sean reads the two paragraphs to actually getting in the game. It's a matter of 2 or 3 minutes.
I thought it was a slow harddisk, so I installed a nice Samsung SSD in there and the machine itself is much more responsive, but this slow load in Civ is no better at all. Very frustrating.
The machine's specs are i5 2430M at 2.4 with a GT 555m GPU driving a 1600 x 900 panel. It has 8 GB of RAM and a Samsung 850 EVO SSD.
