I have just installed Civ 3 on an older computer, and it runs fine. I have no errors or anything like what people are posting up here. Everything runs fine until I get further into the game (1000 AD+) and then the computer seems to take ages to take its turn. It takes so long that I actually get sick of playing because half the time I am just sitting in front of my computer waiting for it to load. I have tried turning all the animations and everything off in the preferences to get it to run faster, but it still takes ages. Does anyone have any idea's? At the start everything runs splendidly, so it isn't a graphic's related thing. Any help would be appreciated, because it is making me unable to play Civ 3 past 1000 AD

I suspect you have run out of hard drive space for page files. It's a good idea to clean up and defrag your hard disk.

Well one of the first I can suggest is to get a better computer. :D I have a PII 400 as well but I got 256 MB RAM and the game generally runs at a respectable speed.

Things you could do if you have not already done so:

You should turn off the CD music. You should download the latest patch v1.29f. You should free up more hard drive space for virtual memory if you have below 500 MB free. You should set your virtual memory limit higher (around 750-1000MB). You should play smaller map sizes and/or play with less AI's (large maps sizes or smaller and 11 AI's or less).
