I noticed that I am given four different options when installing smac. One of them is called "laptop." Just curious, but what does that do? How is it different that Typical and Complete?

"Laptop" is the simplest install option; it copies only the bare minimum amount of files to the hard disk. I suppose that this has an effect on performance. This was done because in 1997, laptop memory was typically pretty skimpy.

"Typical" leaves the standard amount of files on the disk. You need the CD to play.

"Complete" is what I would go with, though: it copies the entire contents of the game onto the comp, allowing you to play without the CD in the drive. Since the game takes <500 MB of space even with Complete, it's worth it on virtually any system produced remotely recently.
