Has anyone found a way to play SMAC on Leopard?
I know that it uses classic and Leopard doesn't have classic, but I'm wondering if anyone has found a way or heard of a way around it?
Thanks!

I've recently found a page, where someone claimed to have carbonized both, SMAC and SMACX - and... it's true :) I've been playing both Alpha Centauri and Crossfire on my 10.5 PPC Mac.

Here's the link: http://www.brad-oliver.com:8081/~boliver/blog/archives/000299.html. Somewhere on that page you will find a link to carbonized SMACX.

As I remember it (I don't have the SMAC copy on me now) I just copied all files to a folder of my choice (unless there's an installer). So if you see files on the disc just copy them to the HD. Then the files you got from that page.

Theres an installer. And it uses classic. So I'm wondering if theres a workaround?

Since you have a PPC, you could install Mac OS 9.x, boot your PPC up in OS 9, install SMAC and SMACX, and download the carbonized applications into the SMAC folder.

Another workaround would be to find a friend who has classic, install the game on that computer and move the files (other than the noncarbonized apps) to your computer and download the carbonized applications.

I don't remember how I installed it, but I play Alpha Centauri (the carbonized version) on my Mac Pro under Leopard all the time. It works perfectly.
