In the light of the attacks on the WTC, I feel that the USA will be forced to take some kind of action. The problem is Afghanistan is full of mountains and even if we bomb them, they can hide in the mountains.

Now I've heard of "mini-nukes" that don't release radiation but will decimate a small area. Should we use these against the terroists hiding in the mountains?

what exacly is a "SMALL" area, and can these blow away mountains? this seems like an okay idea as long but how would we know where they're hiding?? and if the mountain craters, or crumbles, how will we confirm their deaths?

There is no such thing. That is a myth. Total fantasy!

No. We will only use conventional weapons and forces.

Feel free to dream on, though! ;)

All nuclear weapons, even neutron bombs, release at least a small amount of radioactive residue.

You seem to be referring to 'backpack' nukes, 'dial-a-nukes', and other tactical-sized weaponry. These warheads have a much lower yield than the city-destroying strategic warheads that top our ICBMs. While those monstrousities can go as high as 100megatons of explosive force, and maybe more, tactical nukes start at as little as a single kiloton.

BTW- Starlifter, relax, they're merely sensitive, not classified anymore. Someone leaked their existence a long time ago.

There's a difference between a mini nuke and a tactical one. Anyway, they can't destroy mountains. Far from that. I think even the strongest nuclear bombs can't destroy whole mountains, unless they're activated inside the mountain. And I really don't think the US will use nukes. In people's minds, nuclear bombs are means of mass killing, and will give the US the reputation of one.

Bush Freezes Terrorists' Assets

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush (news - web sites), calling for a ``strike on the financial foundation'' of terrorists, demanded Monday that foreign banks follow America's lead and freeze the assets of 27 individuals and organizations. Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) accused Bush of leading a new crusade against Islam ``under the flag of the cross.''

Bush, standing in the Rose Garden, said the order that took effect one minute after midnight applied to ``terrorist organizations, individuals, terrorist leaders, a corporation that serves as a front for terrorism and several nonprofit organizations.'' He conceded they operate primarily overseas, adding that as a result, ``We're putting banks and financial institutions around the world on notice.''

If they fail to assist, he said, the Treasury Department (news - web sites) ``now has the authority to freeze their banks' assets and transactions in the United States.''

Wath good does it make to nuc a mountain in afgahnistan and spread radioactive residue when you don't even know if he is in the country!

I really think the whole point is moot. Bush and Powell are already on record as being unwilling 'to waste a 2 million-dollar missile on a $10 tent'. They're hardly going to waste a billion-dollar weapon on a small group of such tents.

Really, use your heads.
