I didn't know that it was possible to win when you are half an era behind, almost broke, and only have one city.

I know that it isn't very impressive, but this was actually my most suspense filled game ever that I won.

Build more cities!

I didn't have Sanitation... Or Industrialization, for that matter.

Collosus, Oracle, Glib, Glight, Hanging Garders, Sistine Chapel, Copernicus', Shakespeare's, and all the non-wonder improvements (no small wonders).

What I meant by industry was your had all your grassland mined/railwayed rather than some mined and some irrigated.

Edit: Can we get a few more screenies of this?
-City View
-Histograph
-A few advisor screens
-Anything else of intrest

Yes, I think your swordsman will really repel attackers. ;) OCC Cultural 20k victories are the hardest...this was on Deity, I assume? (You said you were a deity player, so I'm making a guess).

@Yuri: My city couldn't grow past 12 anyway, and with all that grassland, I didn't need irrigation.

@Ginger Ale: This was Emporer, but it felt harder than Deity. However, because of the way the map was positioned in relation to me, Deity wouldn't have been that much more different, except at this time the launch would be a lot closer. I popped that guy out of a hut in 3550 BC. ;)

EDIT: Repel defenders?

Wow. I've won as a small civ before, but never THAT small. Were you larger at some point, or did you build nothing but great wonders during the Ancient Era, and somehow avoided getting attacked?

I've actually won as a single-city civ, but never on Emperor level.

Wow, 2 wheat and a game at the capital. Probably kicking yourself for playing an OCC on this map.

It looks like a start where you had very good AA production, but without any hills, was really hurting for shields in the middle ages.

Did you make a run at Newton's. Were there any attacks? Were you in the brokering loop until the end? How did America end up on two continents?

Congrats on a impressive victory :goodjob:

I guess for fun, you could try to take those blue cities on the main continent, and then go for the Zulus (or whoever is dark gray), and see if you can conquer the world.

I was very lucky with the Ancient Age cascade, so that many AI wonders died. I was way behind at the end of the Medieval Times, so I had no shot at Newtons. Also, since I don't even have replaceable parts, and America has Mech Infantry in their city, there is abosolutely no chance that I could take those cities.
Were you larger at some point
Nope.

 If you were so behind, why were you going for Communism? Shouldn't you have been making a mad dash for replacables? (and that 0 Science rate seems a bit odd too)

Actually, I just picked whatever the auto chooser thingy made me research because I wasn't going to do any research anyway. If you look at the screenie, it shows that I'm losing 2 gpt, with a science rate of 0. I don't think I could have gone any higher... ;)

If you were still going at this, you could have sold an improvment you dind't need, disbanded that conscript swordman (maintinence), and then worked towards trying to steal those Gems from the Romans at Reading (They don't look too far ahead of you, and with some RNG luck you could take the city) Then export the Gems to as many nations as you can, (favoring GPT over lump sums) that would solve some of your economic problemsand help to cover WW while you patch up your relations with the romans. (possibly by offering gems) You could even try to rope America into a MPP or alliance aginst Rome (assuming they don't have a similar agreement with Rome) It's quite the gamble, but they payoffs would easily cover the expensces of your Brief war. You could even try to take Oxford in the midst of the chaos if reading dosn't give you much trouble. (I'm hoping you have at least a few artiliery to soften their defences) In the aftermath you would be up 1/2 cities, 2 units exportable luxuries (4 after your culture expands to overtake that American Colony), and a fair deal of productive land. I'm surprised a Diety level player wouldn't have tried something like this. (I'm on Warlord moving to Regent) But then, I suppose you're just not the type to wage that kind of war....

I couldn't afford luxuries, and unless you want me to sell off my barracks or harbor, I have nothing to sell.

They have built The Manhattan project and the UN

Ture, I'm more of a builder.
If you were still going at this
No.

I kinda deliberately played OCC...

Harbor sounds alright, if you're not actualy using your ocean squares, ans you have indirect connections to all your trading partners, you don't realy need your own harbor.

Manhattan won't have much of an effect, as the AI almost never launches the first strike, and tends to only Nuke in retaliation to other nukes. Also, America and Egypt (or whoever that yellow civ is) wou;d be a far greater threat to Rome than you are. If you manage to MPP/Ally them against Rome you could fight a quasi-proxy war, where Linchon and Cleo take the brunt of the assault (and maby even take some ground) while you just sit in the corner enjoying your shiny new Gems. If all the AIs are in Demo, the WW would quickly overthrow them and give you yet annother chance to catch up to them. Even in a worst case scenario it all comed down to a roll of the virtual (loaded) dice and a little bit of faith. (Your swordsman might just pull a :spear: and save the day!)

As am I. I build all sorts of things: temples, cathedrals, monuments, interrogations rooms, command bunkers, mountain lairs, planes, tanks, bombs, gas chambers, balistic warheads, doomsday machines, entire armies of... wait, what were we talking about?

When I talked about the Manhattan Project and the UN, I was refering to their technological status. They have Computers too. :(
