The game has a few social events, such as the marriages between citizens of different Counties. However, there could be many more such events to make the game more interesting and realistic. Frankly, I am tried of receiving multiple events concerning political marriages - gets quite boring.
Accordingly, I have developed these ideas over the last few decades playing Civ. Some of them I was able to use in Civ by using manual techniques and World Builder. So, I suggest the following list of additional events.

In the Ancient world of paganism and nature worship, the women of [City] have developed an annual festival of wine, dance, and assaulting any unfortunate men who happen to stumble upon their celebrations. This Bacchanalia has become a recognized holiday. Gain one Culture Point in [City]. (requires Wine within [City]'s radius) (only during the Ancient Era)

The film makers have been holding a huge film festival for the pre-screening and evaluation of new films. It has become an annual tradition now as the Cannes Film Festival. Gain three Culture Points in City. (only AFTER Hollywood has been built)

In the Arctic, hunters and trappers have been holding an annual dog sled races across the hazardous wilderness of forests, mountains, and snow. It has gained international renown as only for the bravest racers and become the annual Yukon Dog Sled Race. Gain one Culture Point in City (can only be in a city in or on Tundra tiles with forest and mountain terrain in [City]'s radius).

In [City], a hippie counter culture of music, literature, and drugs has arisen in a small community named Greenwich Village, within [City]’s borders. It has gained world wide fame, attracting followers from across [Country] seeking freedom, liberty, and love. [City] gains one population and two Culture Points. (only AFTER Rock & Roll music has been built)

With the discovery of Rock & Roll music, the youth of [Country] rebelled against society’s traditional values and rejected the notion of war. To protest the war and advance the cause of peace, a unique gathering of musicians and poets occurred at Woodstock. Woodstock became synonymous with the counter culture generation. Gain one time bonus of 800 Culture Points. (only AFTER Rock & Roll has been built and [Country] is engaged in a war).

In [City], a unique mix of jazz music, Cajan cuisine, and religion has developed in a festival atmosphere of parades and celebrations. Over time, the religious aspects were supplemented (some say replaced) by the cultural aspects of celebration. Visitors from across the world travel to [City] to attend and participate in the Mardi Gras Festival. Gain one Culture Point and two Commerce Points in [City]. (Only AFTER Sociology) (MUST have Spices in City radius)

Horse racing has developed into a widely watched sport, several races becoming the most important. A victory in the three major races in the same year has developed into a tradition of being the pinnacle of achievement in horse racing. The winning of these races has become known as the Triple Crown. Gain one gold and one Culture Point on Horse tile. (must have Horse resource in City radius and only AFTER Renaissance Era)

In [City] beer drinking has been elevated to a national past time. The people of [City] have formalized this tradition into an annual festival called Oktober Fest. Beer drinkers from around the world come to [City] to celebrate the suds. Gain one Culture Point and two Commerce Points in [City]. (Available after [Country] has at least six Breweries and 12 Taverns - one of each in [City]).

Tennis has been played and adopted by the royals of the world. Over time, it was played by regular people, becoming quite popular. In [City], winning a series of important tennis tournaments has now been recognized as the Grand Slam of the tennis world. Gain one Culture Point in [City]. (only AFTER Renaissance Era)

With the invention of the automobile, cross country road racing has become very popular. In [City], the Le Mans Road Race has become the preeminent road race in the world, going across the Country and through several cities over several days. Gain one Culture Point in [City]. (only AFTER Automobiles).

A really weird craze has swept across [Country]. In [City], an enterprising merchant has offered "pet rocks" for sale and people are buying them as fast as he can package them. It is an axiom that a fool and his money are easily parted. Gain one Commerce Point in [City]. (only after Industrial Era)

These events would lend a significant amount of realism and historical color to the game and its culture. Thoughts anyone?
