Someone please explain poprush to me

Hi.

I've spent about half an hour searching for help on this topic, but either I'm no good at searching or it's not well covered.

When rushing during despotism or communism, I'd really like to know:

- How many shields do you get per pop. and does this vary? I've seen a figure suggesting 40 shields for the first one and then 20 for each additional population. This does not seem to match what I get although often it's pretty close.

I found it strange that in one game I found that my 6-pop. city could complete 35 shields with one pop, 55 shields with 2, 75 with 3 but NOT 95 with either 4 OR 5 pop. Does the cost go way up at a certain level? I can't seem to find a pattern to figure it out on my own. This other time I was unable to rush 24 shields in a 3 pop city. Go figure. And yes, I do know about the double cost when zero shields in the box, so that's not it.

- How does the unhappiness work? One unhappy citizen per rush job, or do they get even more unhappy if several pop. are used up in the rush? And for how long, 20 turns? 40?

Any help would be appreciated.
 
I think that you ask an interesting question, but I don't know the answer. I don't use it that much myself. I do recall that it is somewhere in the manual or something.

I did find this article for you on this topic, although it is more related to poprushing strategy than the exact quantification of this issue.

Dubble cost with 0 shields only counts for gold rushing!

For pop rushing, it USED TO BE 40 shields first citizen and 20 for the rest but they patched it away in 1.17 Its now just 20 shields for each citizen you kill!

As far as i understood it works this way: (but i never pop rush so i can't be sure)

If less than 1 citizen would remain you can't pop rush!

So a temple in a non religius civ costs 60 shields! to pop rush it from nothing you will have to kill 3 citizens. so you'r town needs to be size 4!

If you wait untill 20 shields or more are build the normal way, you will need to kill 2 citizens to finish the job, that means your town will have to be size 3!
And so on!

But if someone knows it better i'd be glad to hear about it too. :)

Well, yeah... This IS kind of obvious, isn't it? :)

So howcome I can't rush 24 shields with a 3 pop city then? Especially since I HAVE rushed much more with the loss of ONE pop before...
 
Yeah i was doubting it, i said i wasn't sure!:)
So rushing a temple from scratch will kill 3 citizens so your town needs to be size 6 :D

And yeah, i checked it, the 0 shield dubbel costs thing only couts for gold rushing!
