Something about all MP game types

I'm new to MP, but when I click the option "Multiplayer" in Civ3 and select Internet, it seems to work but I see only 2 or 3 games available (from which at least one requires password). Is this a bug or what? I can't believe that in the whole world there are 2-3 available games! If I try to play through GameSpy Arcade it tells me always "You've been kicked out of the room by the host" with the only option "Darn". What should I do? Why I can't play with opponents I don't have known before? I have to make my own game to play or what? Why it doesn't work?

Also I would like to join a PBEM game, but ALL of them already started.

About Multiplayer games, Civ3 came out a while ago and interest has been lost in its multiplayer aspect. Occasionally, there is one or two open games for everyone, but those end up having everyone drop after 2 turns .
If you really want to play online, join a ladder. Ask in the lobby for sites where you can sign up

What's a ladder?

A ladder is like a league of players. A ladder member sets up a game and only members can join the game to play. Also, they occasionally have tournaments and events.
The point of a ladder is to play a whole game without people quitting. If you quit a game out of nowhere in a ladder game, they'll most likely kick you out.

And how can you become member of a ladder?

Well, it probably depends on the ladder. The ladders you want probably just have you register at a home site.

Also, you should register with GameSpy because that opens up a private messaging system in multi.

I don't really know what ladders there are. You can probably go to the lobby and find a couple ladder games and ask around for a URL to their site.
