In PTW, when you sued for peace with the AI's you were warring, you could keep plenty of techs in the ensuing negotiations. But in C3C you'll find that even if you conquer all their empire, but one city, they will hardly give you any techs as part of the peace treaty (nor cities IIRC).

I have Civ3 Complete, the box set plus the latest patch, and when ever I sue for peace, I usually get a couple of techs and a city or two. Is this due to the AI aggression level set to normal?

1. Complete doesn't require a patch.

2. Consider yourself lucky, I don't get squat when I sue for peace, even when I'm crushing them. Go figure...

It depends on how hard you beat them.

The more they lose compared to you, the more they will pay for peace.

But if you lost more, you'll have to pay them, or stay at war a bit longer.

In my last few games including the current one the only way I can keep up with the tech pace in the AA and most of the MA is to beat the crap out of a neighbor and ask for techs in the peace negotiations. I often get two or three, or a tech and one of their smaller cities.

1. Complete doesn't require a patch.
That's not entirely accurate. There was a small printing of Complete that shipped with Conquests 1.00. So a patch would be in order then.

But usually, yeah, it comes fully patched.

I didn't pay attention to the version in the first place, anyway, I do get a crap load of techs, maybe it's because I never got to see how easy it was before C3C.
