Something that REALLY bothers me

Mid way through Civ 5's life Firaxis removed "The" from most of the wonder names and it's something that they appear to have carried over to Civ 6. So instead of it being called "The Hanging Gardens" it's just "Hanging Gardens".

Why? Why did they do that? It's a complete mangling of English and sells a lot of wonders short (They're not just Pyramids they're The Pyramids. It's a status indicator as much as it is a definitive article.

Furthermore it's lead to a lot of people just automatically inserting "The" before every wonder when talking about the game, even where it's not applicable and it drives me up the wall. Go watch any LP of Civ 5 and count just how many times people call it "The Petra".

No!

It's NOT "The Petra". It's just Petra! Petra is a place! It was a city! You don't put "The" before it just in the same way you don't put "The" before Paris or Moscow and it makes me wince every time. The same goes for Machu Picchu and also Neuschwanstein although in the latter's case for slightly different grammatical reasons.

Now in Civ 6 they're adding even more wonders where this is the case (Mont. St. Michel, Great Zimbabwe) and we're going to get the same issue all over again!

Please Firaxis. This is a very simple fix.

And once again the day is saved, thanks to...

;) Seriously though - I do understand what you mean, though I'm not as bothered as you are. I'm just happy they don't name them "Pyramids of Giza", "Library of Alexandria", "Great Wall of China" and so on! Now THAT would make no sense!
Sure, there's still the odd Machu Picchu not being built in Machu Picchu, or Chichen Itza not being built in Chichen Itza, but that's what happens when the wonder is the city.

Speaking of Chichen Itza, I never understood whether we were supposed to be building the city, or the temple. I think it's the temple, so really it should be named El Castillo or, even better, Temple of Kukulcan, instead. :p

And it was so much pain to look for THE wonders in THE alphabetical order...

:goodjob: Here's the perfect solution then:
Hanging Gardens, The
Pyramids, The

 I kid I kid - but really it'd not be hard to implement a "displayName" and a "orderName" in the buildings and units, to avoid such nonsense! :crazyeye:
For ease of use, make it so that getOrderName() returns displayName if orderName is undefined/empty/null/whatever.

Pedantry is a weakness of mine too, so I understand your suffering. But if someone talks about "the Petra" it's not Firaxis' fault.

Now in Civ 6 they're adding even more wonders where this is the case (Mont. St. Michel, Great Zimbabwe) and we're going to get the same issue all over again!
Well, the proper name is Le Mont St. Michel, so the article here makes at least sense in French.

I never really noticed this, but I guess mods could fix it easily if Firaxis won't?

Is Chichen Itza still in the game? Maybe they replaced it with Huey Teocalli?
