Can you use custom maps online? A buddy of mine and I want to play together against computer opponents, but we want to use better maps. Possible?

Not really since you cannot use Worldbuilder to edit/create maps in Multiplayer Games.

This is my biggest grief with Civ4 and its expansions.

No clue about online (ie gamespy), but it is possible on the hotseat, pbem, etc, etc multiplayer games. Use the new scenario option when creating the game and select your custom map. Any human opponents will see that you used a custom map on the F8 screen, rather than a random map. Also keep in mind that you will have a distinct advantage over your AI opponents since you will have prior knowledge of the map.
