Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not Civ4 should remain strictly on the 'Earth' map it is played on or should we actually be able to explore other worlds? I'd say that if this game has always been historical in nature, this could be a bit of a stretch. Any ideas?

I'd prefer a smarter earth-bound AI, refinements to cultural/religious/national development, fewer numbers of units but a greater variety of strengh/longevity of units (perhaps by being able to combine units into hierarchical groups, like the C3 "army", but N levels of "army"). Lastly, a tactical combat mode would be awesome, something like the old Anvient Art of War game where you could have some tactical control over a combined-arms force.

It's an interesting idea, but, IMO, it would really monster the game. Under certain circumstances the game, as is, can become rather tedious (especially in the MA) -- I can't imagine what it would be like trying to manage the economies/infrastructures/military on 10 different worlds. Also, there's the problem that most players have either won, or are winning, by the time the MA rolls around -- well before anyone has the technology to consider exploring/conquering distant planets.

I understand you point Volstag, I usually keep playing after the official end of the game though so I guess you could see where I am coming from. (I think that is what MA is?) If anyone designing the game took this thought seriously enough to incorporate it, I'm sure they could prolong the period of time before the game ends but that might make the game a bit too long for those who don't like to keep at it for ages.

Aye. I suppose they could do it. As you mentioned, they'd have to tinker with the "flow" and "pace" of the game (for lack of better terms).

Oops, I just started a similar thread. It would be nice if you could reach other planets as the tech moves on - not in a dodgy Star Trek kind of way, but realistically. It would add extra expansion phases to the game, as people start to build moon bases, then possibly mars, and maybe go on to some of Jupiter's moons etc. (After a few hundred years though) = P

ACK keep it to a scenerio

I wouldn't mind Civ 4 going a little to the future. Lilke US Future soldier, sattelites, moon mining stations, clones (that is today).
