I noticed while looking around about OCC tips that someone had this to say

"I will assume you know that there is a pattern that the "special" terrain features appear in. If you place a city in the middle of the pattern, you will have access to either three or four of the special squares. "

This just amazed me. It made sense, no program is pure random. What is the pattern?

Altho it gets broken up into different sizes as determined by the resource seed (set in the map editor), the pattern is a repeating set. I won't try ascii art, this description isn't confusing:

If your city sits in the center of 4 specials (the most possible, as this set of 4 is the base pattern), there will be one in each of the corners (northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast).

Some patterns have only 3 of the 4 repeated, or the set of 4 repeated 2 or 3 times, etc. Start a world in the map editor, change the resource seed, and observe the pattern. Note that grassland does not reveal specials - use any other terrain.

Also, note that huts always appear 2 tiles from a special square, in a consistent pattern that also changes with the resource seed.
