Speed up turns by finishing non visible combat animations when moving the camera

Make the following test: attack an enemy unit on a distant location (far away from your capital) and then go to your capital to change production while the combat animation is running. Change the production in the city screen and then go back to the main interface. You can see the "A unit needs orders" button for several seconds, until the combat animation is finished in background. Also, the combat animation seems longer when you aren't watching it.

My proposed tweak to speed up things is: please, finish immediately the combat animation when I move the camera to another distant map location!. Just as if the "no combat animation" option were active.

Consider that if I move the camera is because I don't want to see the rest of the combat animation. I don't enable "no combat animation" because I like to see most of them, but I would like to speed things up a little sometimes.

Does anybody feel the same way?

Is there a way to turn off the animations selectively? Some units (bombers, I'm looking at you) take so painfully long that I avoid using them! That "Go in three huge loops" animation seems to do more damage to my CPU than it does to the enemy!

Quick combat

i dont notice a difference going into that view..it feels the same as regular view.

cpu spec
8 gigs of ram
5870 radaeon hd

That's weird. Because it's completely different in strategic view.

yeah its a different view most definitely but lag wise its about the same imo

lolwut? Given you're not forced to watch every combat animation, it cuts down turn times a LOT.

Yes, cuts down time INSIDE the turns; but it's quite obvious he's talking about between turns...no reason to be a jerk about it. He isn't the OP and 'migrated' the discussion to a slightly different topic... <.<

"Selectively"

But yes, I agree, Quick Combat is an even better solution.

As dumb as it sounds, I am just a sucker for most of the combat animations so I usually don't turn quick combat on.

It seems like the animations are complete fluff and the kind of thing that I would scoff at....but there is something more rewarding about seeing your guys bludgeon/blow up the other guys.

I totally agree with this! :) However, combat gets annoying when there are airplanes involved, especially if the AI spams them. 10 fighters in one turn just takes forever! So usually when I am that far I turn combat off in the config file.

Actually, no, it also cuts down time BETWEEN turns as well because you're not forced to watch every combat animation either.
