I'm thinking about upgrading to an SSD as my primary drive, but I'm not sure about it. I'm curious if anyone else is using an SSD for CIV and if they notice a difference in performance for it?

The main reason I'd like it is faster large/huge map turn times. I find them to be so irritating and I don't think that I have a slow system (i7 2.7ghz, 12gb, ati radeon hd 5800 or 5870 can't remember).

Anyway, thanks for any input.

My system should not be slow...

3570k at 4.4Ghz
8GB DDR 3 RAM
670 GTX 2GB GPU

I also have a SSD for the OS (Crucial M4) and a separate one (Samsung 830 series 256GB) for my games.

Whilst the SSD has certainly made a positive difference as the boot drive, and for the apps installed on it, there has been a much less positive effect noticed with games.
Obviously Civ V makes no HD noise any more but I can't say that I have noticed much of a difference at all when playing the larger maps, especially at the late game stage.

I still have lengthy (subjective) delays between turns and I would even suggest that they seem to have got longer since the expansion, but maybe that is just me.

So a SSD makes a great difference to the overall performance of your PC but I have not seen a great difference when it comes to playing Civ V.

Thanks for the response. I was hoping it would significantly improve late turn times on those huge maps as they're my favorite. It's gotten so slow with G&K that I've started playing in Windowed mode!

I think I'll wait till Black Friday and see if any ssd goes on sale then!
