Hey all,

important information for everybody experiencing sporadic late-game crashes. Those are mostly due to lua hooks being called from the game core. On the other hand if you are not using any additional modmods, those lua hooks are actually not needed.

So there is an option to turn them off. Take a look into "(1) Community Patch\Core Files\Core Tables\CustomModOptions.xml" and set CORE_DISABLE_LUA_HOOKS to 1.

That is all, and you even get a little performance boost on top. Please document your experience, if everybody ends up playing without we could even make it the default.

Which kind of mods? Modmods you mentioned? In any case, these would need them?

UI - Trade Opportunities for VP

I'll be sure to try it out, once the game doesn't crash anymore with the ranged units :P

This would disable almost all modmods by default.

it’s not too much trouble to set to 0 as part of the modmods, but you will break basically everything in the mods compository in the short term

So if we are just downloading the Vox package (1 - 7b) and use no other mods, is this when it is good to set the disable hooks to 1? I don't know exactly if the other things in the download are considered "modmods."

They are not modmods if they are packaged with Vox populi. If they are packaged with the base cpp then they have the luxury of full dll integration, but most custom civs, added wonders, and additional features do not enjoy full integration.

Nahh, it happens in vanilla VP too. Disabling the hook seems promising. Would test it out in mp
To some people. I am not getting crashes, neither on my current laptop, nor on my old one (I was getting screen freezes if playing with Ethnic Units though). And I play exclusively on Huge with a ton of extra mods. It seems somehow HW related, but it's really a hit or miss. I know some people with powerful machines experience the CTDs too.

I'm curious as to whether people using Windows 7 are experiencing more of these sporadic crashes than those using Windows 10.

Im on win 7, but rarely play extreme late game.
Got one game going with most recent version, game is stable (300ish turns so far) but its crashing when I leave civ -> desktop, which is not usual.

If playing single player, my game only crashes after turn 500, when memory goes haywire.

One time it generated an autosave (turn 507) of 12.99GB though, which was the cause why I couldn't start a new game at all.

In general, for me it's crashing the turns after a city razing ends in the late game. Sometimes I change some moves and doesn't crash.

I've played two games with the lua hooks turned off and encountered no problems. Mods used:
  • Faster aircraft turns
  • Info Addict
  • Quick Turns
  • Really Advanced Setup

I used to crash regularly, but not once yet on this new version. *touch wood*

If it helps, all my crashes usually happened when using bombers. Occasionally I'd go to bomb a city I'd crash. Not happened yet on this one.

I also think events & decisions was causing a crash too, I'd crash after the event where you get two free artists. but I got that one yesterday and didn't crash so.

I have high hopes for this version.
